18x9.5 +38 265/35 Minor rub in the rear, will definitely roll the rears at some point.
Lowered on coils

Cheapo Nankangs. Couldn't pass up on the deal I got for them. Its just my daily, I don't plan on racecar-ing it much so I don't need super expensive tires.

tires are infinitely more important than your wheels.

clearly not performance oriented, to each his own. Silver RPF1s on a DGM car is a great combo!

Great thread, helped me a ton when trying to figure out what fits!

18" Rota Grids, 265 tires with RCE blacks, rear fenders rolled. No rubbing.

Looking at white RPF1s 17x9 +35 with Michelin PSS 245/40R17 for my 2014 WRX Hatch with stock suspension. Mainly for DD and curvy hills with no plans to lower or use bigger brakes in the future.

I've searched this thread and it seems like any +35 offset wheel requires the rears to be rolled, but would like some confirmation with this specific setup. Also, a few people have mentioned that a smaller diameter helps for the 5-speed gearing, but since it's -2.4% smaller than stock diameter, would it be too big a difference?

If this is a no-go, I'll probably stick to my original plan of white Sparco Assetto Garas in 18x8 +48 with MPSS 235/40R18 as that is very close to stock.

Use a 255/40. You will not need to roll with stock suspension

Thanks for your input! I've searched most of this thread and it seems like the general advice is that 17x9 +35 RPF1s can use either 245/40 or 255/40 and rolling depends on tires used.

MPSS does come in 245/40, but not 255/40. I may just stick to Assetto Garas after all and try a wider wheel/tire in the future.

Hey everyone,

New to NASIOC and to Subaru's. Loving the vibes from everyone. Looking to get some wheels for my 11 WRX on stock suspension with no plans of adding larger brakes. What would be the largest overall wheel/tire size combination I could safely run without doing any suspenion/fender modifications? Ive been reading and reading and reading and just get a lot of different answers. If anyone can chime in on this, possibly with some real life expierences on a similar setup, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advanced.

Welcome to the tribe!

Usually 255/35 on the tires and 9.5 with an offset between 38-45 on the wheels.

Your results may vary....

Are you talking about overall diameter or width? because you can fit a 27" wheel if you need to, but you can't do that and fit a 285 wide tire at the same time.

thank you for your welcome and reply.. so in your honest opinion..besides the oem spec..what would be a size that would go in without any problems with clearances?

Mr. B -- If you find a 9" wide wheel it will be lighter than its 9.5" brother ... so go with that width for the 255/35 tire. The stock WRX wheels are around 22 lbs/each - so try to make sure your new wheel is lighter than that (assuming handling and performance matters to you).

Mr.Biart:
Stock '11-14 WRX wheel = 21 lbs
Stock Dunlop SP Sport 01 = 25 lbs
Combined weight per corner = 46 lbs

It's hard to give anyone a recommendation on wheel/tire setup since it really depends on what you are after (looks/performance). Rule of thumb is that tire selection is more important than wheel sizing. Meaning the compounds and thread patterns matter more than the width when it comes to performance and comfort.

The easiest thing to do to avoid any extra work is to stick to OEM sizing, see below:

17x8 +35 to +53 offset with 235/45r17 tires
18x8 +35 to +53 offset with 235/40r18 tires
17x8.5 +40 to +55 offset with 245/45r17 Tires
18x8.5 +40 to +55 offset with 245/40r18 tires (stock STI tire size)

9" width is a bit tricky, but they generally fit if you stick with +42 to +50 offset.

************************************************** *

Going back to 17x9 +35 RPF1s, what is a good 255/40 tire comparable to MPSS? Largest MPSS in 17" is 245/40 or 245/45, no 255s.

My options right now:

1) 18x8 +48 Sparco Assetto Gara 235/40 R18 MPSS (43 lbs) = $1500
2) 17x9 +35 Enkei RPF1 245/40 R17 MPSS (38.6 lbs)= $1800
3) 18x9.5 +38 Enkei RPF1 265/35 R18 MPSS (44.6 lbs) = $2300

1 no fender work, already balanced and has centering rings
2 may require fender work, balancing and centering rings required
3 definitely needs fender work, balancing and centering rings required

-Option 1 is the easiest option and also cheapest, but is similar to stock.
-Option 2 is a compromise, where it provides a wider track and the lightest setup of out the 3, but is not an ideal tire size.
-Option 3 is the most popular option due to the fitment, but I feel is too big and expensive for DD

Can anyone comment on 17x9 +45 RPF1s? I can't find those in white, so I haven't considered them, although they seem to be easier to fit than the +35 version.

Hey, all!
I'm also new here and am looking to set up my '13 wrx with some new tires. I picked some wheels and am kinda stuck on what size to get. They are 18x9.5 with a +34 offset, I plan on getting my rear fenders rolled and sitting on stock suspension. I tried looking through other posts to get an idea of sizes but am a bit lost. What size tire size range would anyone recommend for my setup without any rubbing?
Thanks in advanced!

Unless you put a narrow tire on there (235/245) you'll need to roll and pull the rears for sure.

Hey I have 18x9.5 +38 gram lights with 265/35/18 Continental DW's. Rear fenders are rolled but definitely not flat. The fronts are untouched and on stock suspension. I have had absolutely zero rubbing of any kind on any tire. I went with the Contintenal DW's specifically for the narrower tread pattern compared to the MPSS. The continentals are a full inch narrower on tread and due to this fit very well even with a 265 tire.

I think you will be disappointed with the look of the 17x9 RPF1's with the 245 tire. While the rim will obviously look different, but the fitment from stock will be very similar. It will not have the pushed out, flush look like the 9.5 with a 255 or 265 will. NOW PLEASE NOTE, I am not talking the "stanced" look. I just mean pushed further out to match the side of the car much better. I tried 18x8.5 RPF1's with a 255 tire on my '13 WRX and it just wasn't much of a change from stock.

I have the same wheels and size, rolled rears, but my tires are mpss, and i have zero issues with rubbing on any corner.

Happy to hear that! I am waiting for my 18x9 +40 Rota SVN-R wheels to come in, and am debating between 265/35 or 255/35 MPSS tire. I plan to roll rears, and I am on stock suspension with my 14 WRX sedan.
