Default Post your Exhaust setup.

I've noticed a lot of people running custom exhaust setups. What sort of diameter pipe / muffler? Header? Mid-section? Pictures, sound clips, and your thoughts would be awesome.

On a side note, does anyone have any sound clips of a Stromung? Thanks.

/Jonathan

I have Borla Headers, Stromung Cat delete pipe, Stromung mid pipe and a Scoobyworld Afterburner Vortex muffler (which I'm waiting for, I just ordered it). Scoobyworld.co.uk has sound clips of their set up. I dont have pictures yet, couple weeks when I get the rear muffler I'll post some pics. Boxer4racing.com has alot of exhaust stuff for 95-99

iamrazor - More details on your exhaust? How much did it cost to build?

it was $308 at a custom exhaust shop up here.
they had it done in like an hour. the guy even helped me pick the muffler, because i was undecided (didn't want a fart can).

That's my main concern right now -- the muffler. I'm hearing very good things about stromung. Maybe a Stromung axle-back paired with custom 2.25" pipe from the cat back?

IMHO buying exhaust bits is so pricey that its not worth it. thats the main reason i went the custom route. i got a cat-back for the price of a "name brand" axle-back.

Here's what I have:

Stock header, stock cat, stock cat-back with stock exhaust tip. Yup, it rocks!!! I do have one cool thing though. I wrapped the stock headers in the insulating wrap sold at summitt racing and used for race headers. I can get under the car with the engine running and not burn myself!!! This stuff is awesome!!!

Used to have just borla headers, and stock everything else .

Now I have stock sti ver2 ra headers, up/downpipe, into custom 3 inch with a 22 inch resonator and magnaflow muffler. Sounds absolutely incredible

Where did you purchase this axel-back straight up w/ out mod? Do you have a part number if OEM? What'd you pay, was engraving extra/custom? Don't remember ever seeing this model.

Can I inquire more about this setup?

I currently have a Brullen. I think it is 2.25 piping. Did you buy the Burllen with 3" or did you have it modified?

Where could I get the 3" brullen if you bought it? I love the sound of my current setup, but when I do the swap I think I'll want to move to the 3" pipe.

I went directly to Brullen (they are local to me) and they custom made me the exhuast with 3" piping and the correct length to mate up to my Downpipe. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if Brullen is in business anymore.

I actually bought it used from a Nasioc member. It is an SPT factory item made by Brospeed/Bosal. I have no idea of what the part number is. I wonder if it is any different than the item listed on several sites as the SPT legacy axelback. You should PM Subie Gal or her vendor screen name with these pics. She'll get you hooked up, and she's local to you, if I remember correctly. Anyways, with the setup I have it sounds nice, and there definitely was a noticable difference.

Well, I can't say I've actually heard my exhaust yet but below is the set up (my Legacy is currently undergoing a WRX swap at a shop)

- Aftermarket uppipe
- JDM single cat downpipe
- JDM twin scroll midpipe (longer)
- STi muffler.

The midpipe and tailsection were modified slightly for the Legacy's extra length and the STi muffler was used since the Legacy has a single round opening in the rear bumper.

Rallispec of course. Lately there's been some issues with my car since it's a '97. Apparently some emissions equipment was not included in/around the gas tank like the '98 and '99's have so the WRX ECU isn't happy.

To correct this problem, a new gas tank, along with all the emissions equipment, hoses, clips, etc is being retrofitted.

I used a 1999 Legacy Gas tank with my swap (02 WRX into 1995 BD). You need EVERYTHING that's hooked to the fuel tank. The canister (Located on the rear right corner underneath the car), The tank itself, the filler neck, and the roll over valve (on the front right side of the tank) and the harnesses that go to the tank (one for the pump and level sensor and the other harness for emissions crap). It's fairly easy to pull out as as assembly. You'll have to drill one hole in the rear to mount the canister, but other than that, it's a plug and play deal. You'll just have to add the wires for the emissions equipment (Which is no big deal because they'll be back there wiring in the fuel pump and controller)

I currently have:

Gen4 Borla Header
Stromung HiFlow Cat
Stormung Midpipe
Stromung Mild Steel Axcel Back
Kartboy hangers

The axel back is quite rusted, all(most) through the canister below the tip. The Stormung SS is nice, but $$$

I've got an SPT, as mentioned below, on order from Chaplin's Subaru.
