Sorry to bring this back from the dead. My 2013 WRX is also having this issue, even at low RPMs it won't let me into 4th if I shift quickly. Has anyone gotten resolution from the dealers for this?

I also had alot of trouble with reverse (requiring me to go into 2nd pretty much 75% of the time before shifting to reverse) but took advice from another thread to unscrew the shift knob one turn and that helped alot but i have no idea why.

I can't see why unscrewing the shift knob would do anything. The knob itself isn't connected to anything of importance.

My car has definitely began to shift better with age. You might just need to break it in a little bit. I've also heard that changing out your transmission fluid can really smooth out your shifts.

Check out this thread. Lots of good info here (http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/transm...reatest-5.html)

I know, it sounds crazy and maybe its only a placebo but I swear after I unscrewed the crazy torqued shift knob from the factory a bit the reverse gear is working fine.

It's possible. I noticed when I was putting on a new shift knob and tried to drive my car the next day my clutch pedal began to have a slight vibration when I let it up for about 2 mins and it went away ever since. I think this happens every time I put on a new shift knob... pretty weird.

Yeah. Its the not being able to quickly shift into 4th consistently that worries me.

Try this:

3-4 Shift
1) Invert hand with the thumb facing down.
2)Wrap hand around front of shift knob and pull back. It should literally fall into gear with no resistance.

This is the correct method to shift the 3-4 on any manual. It keep you from pulling back and towards your body which can result in getting hung up on "the gate" or even worse, inadvertently grabbing 2nd

Getting into reverse
1) Car must be stopped.
2) Shift into 1st and creep fractionally forward. 1" or 6", it doesn't matter.
3) Clutch in and shift into reverse. It should do it very easily.

Most every manual behaves in this manor. Some call it a reverse lock-out and others blame the straight cut reverse. Either way, do the method I described and the car should go into reverse easily.

Thanks for the advice. I do hold the shifter as you describe (don't pistol grip). It has happened enough (but isn't consistent) that I know I'm not pushing it towards 2nd.

Once I adjusted my knob, reverse is working like a charm ( as crazy as it sounds)

You get this too?!?!? My dealership thinks i'm crazy! It feels almost as its pulsating!

I've also noticed that double clutching works very well with my WRX.

I have had that same issue shifting into 4th on harder acceleration! I actually put it in 2nd one time and now i am cautious. It seems like most of the time it almost wants to guide itself into 2nd rather than 4th. Weird

I finally just installed my kartboy bushings and am just now experiencing the 3rd to 4th gear problem! I am not even shifting at high rpms, its just regular driving.

Did I over tighten something when i installed these bushings? i never had this shift problem prior to installing the kartboy parts.
