Still no word on my PBP STI sedan w/ Navi... ordered Aug15th @ 230pm. Hoping I get an ETA soon. The dealer I went through got an ETA on all 9 of the orders he has except 2. Mine and another guys, both PBP, mine being a sedan and the other guys a hatch.

As far as the "meet in chicago for pics" thing... I'm totally down. I'm in Fort Wayne and could make it there in a far amount of time as long as the 5,000 cops that patrol Rt. 30 dont pull me over on the way there, lol. Might just go alittle out of my way and just take the toll road the whole way there. But with so many ppl getting their cars in November I say we make it Late November when we meet up. Like the weekend before Thanksgiving or something. TBH I think meeting at Evanston Subie would be the ****.

Can't wait though, sure I'll be driving around with the craptastic base STI wheels for a bit, but I alrdy got my Swift sport springs and my rallyarmor flaps waiting here for my car. And once spring hits, I'm putting some gunmetal Rota Gforce on her.

So, I picked up my car yesterday and as soon as I got home, I had a plastic burning smell coming from the engine... I read in the forums that it's "normal" and is a "new car smell" but just want to confirm here... kinda scared I broke something...

Well this is my first post even though Ive been lurking for quite a while. Ordered base dgm 4 door wrx on 8/21 from Lou Fusz in STL. After talking to maxwatts as we have a little race going on I decided to check with my dealer since he was moved up to 10/15. Well......October ****ing 8th woooooooooooooooooooooo! She had no idea. She checked after my email and now she is looking through all her orders to tell everyone else. Subaru is cranking these things out apparently!

Currently tire shopping for all-seasons. Continental Extreme DWS were initially my choice, but they apparently have really soft sidewalls.
$172 - Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS (Teh sehks, $$$)
$121 - General G-MAX AS03 (Conti clones with stiffer sidewalls)
$116 - Kumho Ecsta 4x (Non directional tread/proper x rotation. Pinch better TireRack surveys than General)

Decisions decisions. Dealer's going to mount whatever I choose for delivery. I'll sell the virtually new OEM summers... anyone want a spare set?

If you are going stictly all-seasons then try to work something out with a local tire place where they will take your summer tires and give you a pretty good discount on the all seasons. Personally I am going with winter tires on a set of steelies, looking at General Altimax Arctics...but we might get a significant more amount of snow an cold temps here than you.

Totally normal, lasts 4-800 miles from my experience taking nmerous demos over the years, and buying 3 new Subarus as well.

You can smell it more with the cars that have a hood scoop right when you get out of the car.

I picked up a pair of winter tires on OEM wrx rims locally for $400. If that hadnt worked out i was going to go for the cheap-y General (altimax i think) on steelies from tire rack.

Placed an order yesterday (SWP WRX Base Hatch), dealer told me ETA December. Which is good for saving up on DP or parts

I got a set of gently used Michelin Alpina mounted on ASA rims scuff free from a user on this forum only $500. Great condition and cheap because they get very little use here in SoCal. Cheaper than what I would have paid for just rims or tires. Check the classifieds on here and your regional sub forums if you are looking for a deal.

Update, FWIW:
I was blabbering about wanting to immediately swap the 7.5" tires for a wider footprint when my car shows up. Looks like we're getting 8" meats on the WRX line for '13, so I'm good with that. For now.

Oh, and...

WHERE THE $%&@ IS MY CAR?

I was thinking about getting wider tires, but I can assure you the 13 WRX has plenty of rubber. It's a go-cart, on rails, with a rocket up it's @$$.

My concern with dedicated winter/summer tires goes beyond the initial purchase cost of wheel/tire/tpms sensors(?). Without going into detail, suffice it to say Michigan has way worse of a snow situation than southern PA. There's maybe 10/365 days where there's measurable snow on the roads around here... usually from a handful of major nor'easters rather than constant lake effect variety. Not enough to warrant snow tires for the other 80 days of winter. And our cool transitional falls and springs last a long time, ideal to neither hardened summer rubber or sloppy winter rubber.

Though after further consideration if I go all-season, might as well opt for the best with the savings from another set... guess I'll splurge for the Bridgestones.

Bridgestone Protenza were my favorite tires on my Cadillac.

I knew there was a reason to get the '13! And everyone was saying it was exactly the same, what do they know! Look who's laughing now, haha. All you guys bumped to a '13 are probably jumping for joy!
