Nice picks guys..I have a 06 Wrx Wagon I bought brand new but haven't done anything too except add a rear white line swaybar. I bought it for my wife and she didnt want me to start doing upgrades, but unfortunately she passed away this past fall after loosing her battle with cancer. So now I'm looking to upgrade the suspension and exhaust..So if you guys have any suggestions please chime in. I have a built GC but don't know too much about the wagons..I am going to buy a Stromung 3" but would like some shock/spring ideas or even coilovers..Thanks

Hey guys! Recently got my first Subaru and it's one I've always wanted. I have an 02 wrx wagon, it's been great this winter with stock suspension and some basic all seasons. But for the spring and summer it's going to be low and on some sort of 18's. I already have a set of stance coilovers with camber plates, fenders are rolled flat in preparation for the wheels. My last step is finding wheels. It looks like an 18x9 +35 with a 225/40 is what will work. I've done several hours of research but haven't found a solid answer. I'd like to sit pretty much exactly like the car in the pic-

A bit of poke, probably a little higher ride height. I appreciate any help in finding the right sizes!

Hoping to get some recommendations on what to do with my setup for my DD 2007 WRX wagon. Currently have no suspension upgrades other than...
TiC Fender Cowl Brace
OEM wheels on Blizzaks / Sparco Assetto Gara 17x7.5" 48mm offset on Michelin Pilot Super Sport

If you guys need to know other mods let me know.
I figured it was about time to upgrade my suspension because I have bee getting this unpleasant thudding noise on my front driver side when I hit unavoidable bumps here in dirty jersey. I was looking to pick up front and rear Whiteline sway bars (22mm F 22mm R sound about right?)and Kartboy endlinks very soon. Other than that I am at a lose as to what to do. Coilovers? Springs, dampener insert, top hats???? Please help!

Recommendations, in a rough order, based on my personal choices/experience with DD mods/upgrades...

-fix your clunking... may be balljoint/strut/tophat/hub bearing/endlink/outer tie rod. you should investigate this before replacing anything or buying upgrades elsewhere.
-sways & endlinks, but do rear first since it's a bigger upgrade
-upgrade suspension (choose the desired ride qualities vs aesthetic and go from there.... be it coils or struts & springs)
-alignment

I did not add rubber since I'm not at all versed in rubber.... if your tires are **** or worn I have no clue. They would be priority up there with fixing your clunks.

What do you intend to do with the car? Track, daily, both?

mainly for daily but I am a bit of a spirited driver at least that is what I am told but would like to get on to the track also. was thinking about something with minimal maintenance. was recommended from a TiC sales rep to go with the HVT coilovers...

I'm very happy with my setup for daily and occasional track school days. For daily, its not too low, and doesn't scrape those cement parking bumpers (very close, but clear).

RCE wagon springs
Koni inserts
Whiteline Com-C Strut top mounts in front
Karyboy endlinks
Sedan rear swaybar

I wouldn't mess with coilovers due to NVH, less longevity, and the expense.

I'll concur with fixing the clunk first, repairs before upgrades. Swaybar sounds good, pretty common upgrade, lots of reviews and opinions out there.

I also love my RCE wagon springs, though I dont know if they still make them or not. Coupled with tokico d specs, which will hopefully be available again soon, they are the best mix of performance combined with comfort. Its athletic but not unbearable. My GF doesnt dislike it and I dont shake up all my beer on the drive home with NVH.

Tokico and maperformance are taking very good care of me on a warranty so far, I am awaiting my new fronts, which took 80k miles to defect. Tokico/Hitachi is greatly affected by the tsunamis and will hopefully be back in action soon.

Group N tophats are a must, I feel they helped greatly.

Search grassroots motorsports magazine archives for an article, 10/07 on 10 tips for better handling, they use an 07 wagon.

If I didnt have such crappy tarmac and lots of dirt roads and pseudo-ohv in my diet, Id be running the koni inserts. A friend had them here and they just got chewed up from the rough roads.

glad you said something. i was thinking of going the $1k coilover route (ISC $850, BC, or HVT) because everything was there in one package but i wanted an option that required minimal maintenance I don't think the TiC rep was attentive to that detail.

i have seen the wagon springs on RSD and TiC but not on their actual site. i would like to go the Tokico route also but I was having difficulty finding them but now I know the reason. when I am looking for them should i be searching for 02-03 struts? i was on one site that said the Tokico were for 02-05 wrx but not 06-07 which i found strange. I really didn't want to cut apart my stock struts for the Koni and the Tokico seem to have more adjust-ability than the Koni. Is this true (7 turns but you have to start at 4 so 3 turns??? vs 2 turns)?

all I need for the Tokico is the spacers and new top hats right? and the spacers are on the rear struts only? and i salvage the old dust boot, bump stop, and coil seat from the stock set-up. did i get that right?

I am ready to upgrade my set up. I have been running some KYB GR2's with Prodrive then Mach 5 springs. Maybe it's cause I'm getting older, or maybe because this set up is getting tired, but they have seemed much harsher on things like bridge expansion joints and rougher roads. Going over Vail Pass the other day I felt like some of the hits there were going to break something.

Anyway, I have been considering the Koni's, since they are on sale, mated to the RCE wagon springs. Two questions with that: I have never read conclusively whether the Koni's fit into the GR2 strut body. I saw someone on another forum mention in passing they would fit, but no one who has out right done it. I already have Group N top hats, on a side note.

I am really concerned about the Koni's on rougher roads though. I never really take the wagon on dirt roads anymore, and I don't rally cross it, but some of the roads here are rough, plus the fact that many of the roads are snow covered for a good portion of the year.

The other option is the ST coilovers. I am aware that that I will lose negative camber up front. I am prepared to run camber bolts. Actually, I have them in the rear now, but figured I could take those out since the rear ST's are slotted.

I want something that it sporty, but more "compliant" if that makes sense. I am not necessarily interested in adjustments (for either dampening or ride height). I would like to get it set and forget about it. My driving these days is a 60 mile daily commute to work, with spirited mountain driving, but no track or autocrossing.

Oh and I run 215 45 17's in the summer and 205-55-16 snows in the winter.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Either the Koni or Tokico D-Specs will do great for you. Don't worry about adjustability, they are both up to the task, with plenty of adjustment.

Look up some DIY on Koni installs. It's really not that hard or complicated at all.

Now as far as Tokico goes, all Tokico products are discontinued. Hitachi has bought them out and they are for the most part out of business. So don't expect help with any warranties. There are still some new stock available, but they are getting harder to find. They are still a great strut, no mater what.

The Tokico are 02-03 fitment. So if you are using 04-07 springs, you would need the 921 spacers to go between the rear struts and rear 04-07 top hats.

I don't think in the long run you would be happy with coil overs.

Your GR-2 should have no problem accepting Koni inserts.

Another option (a wee bit pricy though) are Feal inserts. They are very stout and unlike the Koni, are made to take some off road abuse.

I'd also dump those springs and just go with some STI take off springs. You will be SO MUCH happier.
All those lowering springs (Eibach, H&R, Mach V, etc.) are all to low and too soft. I've tried them and learned very quickly that it SUCKS riding on your bumpstops.

Thanks for the feedback Bikelok.

Out of curiosity, why do you think I would not like the coilovers in the long run? NVH? Upkeep? General ride characteristics?

The Feal inserts look sweet, but they are a bit pricey. For a while I was considering their coilovers too.

For me, coil overs are best for ether, track cars, weekend warrior cars, some one who likes futzing with stuff often, or some one who just wants them just because that's what they want.

For the most part, coil overs require a more complicated set up, occasional (some lots more than others) maintenance and require rebuilding before a strut will need replacing.

I'm sure I come across as a coil over hater, I'm not at all. I just think that 75% of the people who have them don't really need them and would be better suited by a good spring/strut combo. A good spring/strut combo will ride great for a street car (and some are great on the track too) and be worry free for up to 100k with out issue. I don't know of any coil over that can do that.

Now if all you are into is slamming the car, a cheap set of coil overs will do fine, but your will pay a MASSIVE ride quality price.

Hey guys...there's about 1500 posts on this topic, so hope to find an answer or get a quick reply... Coming from an EVO, I was able to just out springs on, alignment -> done...My last couple car are daily driven, no need for coils... What would be the best setup for a daily driven HB? Something not too stiff, but improves steering feel? Thanks guys

That body is actually considered a hatch and not a wagon.

I'm not too familiar with that body, but perhaps a Bilstein/STI spring combo for a daily driver.

Unless some one else chimes in you might want to try some more searching.

Perhaps. It depends in what you are looking to do.

As I said before, this thread is focused on pre-2008 wagons. 2008 and up are considered hatches. Your best bet is to go up to the stickies and spend some time reading up though them. Then start searching other posts about your model year. This way you will get the most help. Most people on here probably are not familiar with your body type.
