I want help! First post in here so bare with me. My stock rims are beat up and I'm in need of new tires soon so I was thinking of getting a tire / rim package at the same time to make it easier. I don't have any suspension mods done and I don't plan on doing any either. I plan on going Stage 2 with my 2009 wrx but after that nothing further. Interested in a combination of show/functionality.

I love the Enkei Kojin's. What would be the ideal tire size for no modification and a decent ride. 225/40/18? The one part that confuses me is the offset. Thanks in advance.

My budget is about $1500 for tires/rims. I'm thinking of getting 18s when I pull the trigger unless anyone has any reason why I should stick with 17s.

You have a lot of research to do.

That's the great thing about this post, you can go back and check out everyone's specs and pictures to see what you like.

Are you looking for something more performance oriented (wider wheel with more tire) or something more showy (larger wheel with less tire)? I have had a couple of set ups, my first was an 18x8 +48 wheel with a 225/40/18 tire. It looked good but seemed to ride very hard on that tire. My current set up is a 17x9 +42 with a 245/40/17 tire. I don't think I will ever change from this size set up.

I'm more about performance than having big rims that are all show. I'd stay with stock but they're dinged up from previous owner and my tires are going so I wanted to do a package deal of rims and tires at the same time. The offset is the part that confuses me the most so I'll do some more research on the web and look through this thread more. I'm thinking of going with 17" instead of 18" because as many have said it looks funny with the brakes being super small behind the rims.

Performance?

Kojin? 225?

More tire means more grip (performance). The widest 17" tire is 255. Anything wider will have to be 18". 18" tends to weigh more (poor performance) and cost more.

Widest tire seen on a narrow body is 265. I think a 275 might work. But AFAIK, it hasn't been done. Anything wider will require widebody or flares.

Also be weary of tire performance. A proper 225 tire can out-perform a crappy 275 tire.

You want to minimize weight. Wheels and tires are both unsprung and rotating weight. The more weight you can save, the better. However, as wheels get lighter, the price starts to go up. The peak of that curve is generally the Enkei RPF1. You won't find a lighter wheel for less.

Less offset will require more camber to fit. More offset, less camber. You need camber to be able to corner. 0* will corner just as poorly as -5*. Factory specs are generally -.5* to -1*. I was able to get stock suspension to -1.4*.

Proper research should have lead you to this post. (Or some version of it.)

Fender Modification: rolled ok... could be better. slight pull because it just happened as i was rolling. some misc fender wall trimming too.

Wheel Spacers: no spacers... however, i've considered them for in front. +48 is toooo close to the spring to run the alignment that i'd like. i'm like F -1.7 R -2.0 iirc. i still have a few mm between the spring and inner sidewall at -1.7. rears are fine.

i want to be running like a F-3 R -2. and some 18x9.5's w/ some 275's. we'll see. maybe i'll try 18x9's with a 265 instead.

I love how beefy those 255s look! Fitment looks perfect too.

I'm really close to getting the Enkei Raijin 18x8.5 and I'd like to wrap them in 255/35s but I would prefer to not mess with rolling and camber. I may just punk out and get 245s.

I posted before, but that was with stock suspension. It kinda looks the same, but a slight change...

-GTWorx Bilstein dampers w/ RCE Black springs
-18x8 +48 Sparco Assetto Gara rims
-235-40-18 Bridgestone Potenza RE760 tires

Once again thanks to everyone else who posted their dimensions and pictures up. This thread was priceless in terms of finding what I should go with!

I know that I'm mostly alone (and lowered they look great), but I totally dig having some ride height. Maybe it's the potholed NJ roads...

Anyone know if a 18x9.5 +25 will fit? I know it will require a roll and possibly pull with some camber work as well.

Any more pics of that Titan setup? That's exactly the wheel and tire I was thinking about.

No work necessary. +42 offset. Rolled one rear fender. Stock suspension.

Your car looks great! I also run a 17x9 + 42 wheel with a 245/40 tire and I have no fender mods and do not rub. I'm also a bit lower with RCE black springs. Love this wheel/tire size combo on our narrow bodies.
