Default ATE super blue local??

Is there any place that sells ATE super blue around these parts? Burbs of chicago would be great. The only place I found it online so far is Z1 performance.

Someone else mentioned this in an autox list, there are a number of decent fluids you can get from dealers. Ford HD Dot4 fluid for instance probably works just as well.

The Ford fluid you want, that racers have been using for at least a decade I think, is actually DOT 3. Boils at 550 dry, which is higher than anything that doesn't cost twice as much. $4/pint. Used to be called Ford Heavy Duty, now branded "Motorcraft", same juice.

It used to be the only fluid available at Ford dealers, but that's apparently changed. Now they have lower quality fluids, too.

If you are set on ATE or Motul, Northstar Motorsports in Barrington has both on their shelf.

The thing about the valvoline is i can get it at basically any auto parts store (i got my last bottle from the automotive aisle at meijer) and when using proper pads i have never boiled it.

i bought some a few weeks back. i thought it was DOT 4 (at least the stuff i bought), came in blue metal cans, was labeled as heavy duty. i think it was $10 a bottle too.

I had ATE inthe car for a while; the plastic tank is stained blue from it.

Which dealer still has the blue metal cans? All of them around here are selling smaller plastic pint bottles for $4.

Do they have the 550 boiling point still on the back?

The Ford HD that used to come in metal cans was definitely DOT3. Perhaps they have a new version. The dealers around here, though, only seem to have 1 kind.

A mystery?

Nothing wrong with that, I'm just continually amazed at the number of people who will scour the globe for ATE or AP or whatever fluid and spend more money, waste more time, /and/ use inferior fluid. ( And by people who use 600 degree fluid with 400 degree pads, but that's another story. )

The Valvoline isn't great, but it's certainly acceptable, cheap, and available. Fine for a street car, or Solo2-only, at least.

I use the valvoline at the track in a very fluid-abusive manner with no problem. as long as you have pads that can take the het youre generating you shouldnt have a problem with any good fluid. i woudl argue that if you are in a situation that you are going to boil a 500 degree fluid, a 550 degree fluid is likely to do you no better.

Well its definitly Dot 4, says on the back "not for use in vehicles which specify dot 3 fluid." (is there really a problem with that?) no dry boiling point, but it does have the "meets dot 4 standard of wet boiling point of 396 degrees F"
The dealer I purchased it from was Joe Cotton Ford on North Ave. In Carol Stream.

I thought DOT 3 and DOT 4 were compatible with each other?

Is it true when I say the that valvoline is less expensive initially but will absorb more moisture out of the air causing it's wet temp to got down faster then a higher end fluid?

BS or not?

I'm will to spend extra $ for piece of mind and knowing it will stay more consistent over time.
