If you are going to modding your car gauges are one of the things you should buget for. A set of gauges is not that much $ compared to a new motor.

Well, it was briefly discussed. But anyways, surge is when the airflow is stopped (ie throttle closes) and the compressed air left in the system has nowhere to go, and it almost instantly stops the turbos compressor wheel. It may not be the best description, but you get the idea. Surge puts stress on the turbo.

Another quick question on this one, since I plan to do it when I get my VF34 installed. Would a reasonable alternative method be sealing that bottom hole with something like JB Weld rather than tapping it and using the set screw, or is the screw definitely the way to go? It just seems like the JB Weld weld might be quicker and easier.

a set screw is the way to go. jb weld could break loose and end up going in the ic. If you use a longer set screw even if it backs out some it can't come all the way out.

You don't need to do this on an STi BOV. Its already "modded" this way IIRC.

That is only on the JDM ones. The USDM BOVs are the same on the STi and WRX.

ok just to add i have a dsm and this mod DOESN"T work on dsm's

i think our valves hold more pressure than wrx ones

but if you just block the hole doesn't that escentially do the same thing without drilling the hole? i mean airflow isn't getttin in there, so whats the need to vent the pressure to the atmosphere?

That was my first idea.
I didn't have the tools to do it though. I got the BOV apart but couldn't get back together to my satifaction.

I had to put slices around the lip of the gold top and then bend the lip up.

Man, you know a thread is old when it talks about running 23+ psi on the stock EJ205 and not being worried about meltdown on #3.
