1st post from a newbie in Indiana
Hello everyone. just picked up a 2002 WRX Wagon from a friend of mine. came with a HKS DP, i don't remember the name CB, and a thick arse radiator. I bought a new set of Rota wheels and used tires from a different friend for cheap. she has a rear hatch issue as she was in a previous accident. you can see that when the hatch is shut that it isn't sitting flush with the body and i think because of this some exhaust fumes are being sucked into the vehicle. will probably just have a body shop look at it unless someone has a good idea to a fix.
also looking to upgrade the suspension ASAP. i plan on making it my track only car, but i can't go nuts until next year (another baby due any day now ), but i need some parts to hold me over till then and i don't want to waste money needlessly. front and rear sways, and spring and strut combo is what i need now. i want the good adj strut/shock because this will be my daily, but i want to be able to take it to track events as well. don't have the cash flow for coilovers so any suggestions on a good set of spring and struts that will work at the track but that won't kill my butt or give my new baby shakenbaby syndrome. i was looking at whiteline for sways but they only have a 22mm adj front for the wgn and a 24mm adj rear. I see perrin makes a 25mm front and rear sway but i take it that it isn't adj. which ones would be stiffer? Hello again! and thanks in advance

I have more questions than answers.....first....welcome.
What kind of track events? What's your track experience so far? What class to you plan to run in? (hint, look in the rulebook and pick a class) If you're planning a dedicated track car.....meaning that it will no longer be driven on the street.....your best course of action would probably be only changes that won't downgrade street performance. When you flip the switch, take it off the road and make it a dedicated track car, then make other changes as are appropriate. Making changes that are going to still keep good street characteristics with "some" track use is very different from building a dedicated track car. I've done both. If you build for street/track and then want to make it a dedicated track car, you basically take everything you upgraded, throw it all out and start again. You're better off leaving it stock and saving for parts, keep a list, wait till you're ready. If you're serious and building a competitive car, you will be ready. If you're just looking for a fun HPDE car that you'll drive on the street, save the $30k that you would have put into the build and do more track days. I might be low on the $30k.....that's what was in my CRX racecar, so thought I'd use a number that I knew where it came from. jack |

You could look for some adjustable shocks...that could help woth the ride...and use the stock springs for awhile, but if I were you, I would just save your money and do it right the first time rather than buy something now that you might end up changing later.

thanks for all the welcomes. i am on indianaimpreza.com although the last time i was there i hadn't bought the car yet.
don't have any track exp at the moment. just a bunch of friends that keep nagging at me to go and since i sold the R32 i keep hearing when am i gonna get something to be able to go. this car is no where near ready for a track day let alone even an autocross outing. i keep grinding into 4th unless i match revs just right. needs a clutch as well and that's going in next month. while i have the tranny out i want to fix the grind, thinking synchro . i don't think keeping it stock is much of an option since the car is in disrepair and needs new parts anyway. you're right jack, street/track is probably best for me at the moment. at some point i won't need the wrx as a daily and i guess i'll just wait till then to go nuts. thanks again for the advice and warm welcomes! |

Welcome to Indiana!
Check out some autocross with the Indy region scca. It's a great way to get seat time for cheap, and is a must before you hop on a track! (IMO). Glad you are in a subaru, hope you aren't disappointed! |
