I got my WRX about a month ago, wasn't going to get winter tires until I drove it in the first Ice/snow mix. Even in wet weather those UHP Summer tires don't work worth a darn. I'd spend the money. I almost wrecked a few times in the snow because of the Dunlop SP's.

Also, did you get any mud flaps? Any local dealers or should I order online? And finally, Victor was my sales person too... do you think I can talk him into installing them for cheap or should I go for local shop and save money?

Finally any thoughts on tinting? All I want to do for now is, get mudflaps, tint and maybe winter tires....
Yes, I got winter tires. If you plan to drive in the snow, any amount of snow, you can NOT expect summer tires to work at all. For most of the time in the winter, a decent all season would be just fine since we only get several inches of snow a few times per season. But, I wanted the extra insurance if me or my wife needed to STOP ASAP, so I got Dunlop Wintersport 3D. They are a high performance winter tire and are quite good in the dry (not too squishy). Yet to be tested in the snow... Winter tires will wear much faster than all seasons, especially when its 50° out!

I got RallyArmor mudflap ordered from Boston Motorsports from these forums. I paid about $150 and installed myself during the winter tire swap. You can always try Victor. Do you want rally looking mud flaps or more stock looking? Victor probably cant help with the rally look (aftermarket).

As for tint, I have had several cars tinted at http://qwtint.com/

I have always been happy and plan to take our WRX to get tinted there in the spring.

I'm not a big fan of the wheels, but they were only $85 at Tire Rack. There is NO WAY I am putting steel wheels on any of my cars for winter!

My winter mode upgrades consist of winter tires and mud flaps mentioned above as well as an ebay front lip.

How hard was it to install the mudflaps? I've seen numerous how too install threads and it doesn't seem too bad. Just curious how ya felt about it. I've done plenty of mechanical work, but not a bunch of body style work...

Not bad at all. Rears are a piece of cake.

Fronts need a little more time to pop off the lower sill and fender trim, but not hard. Since I swapped wheels at the same time it was pretty easy but I don't think you even need to remove the wheels.

It sounds like you know how to work a screwdriver/nut driver so you should be fine.

You have a floor jack? You're gonna have to pop off some side panels (the fender flare w/ the WRX insert), but they just pop off and snap back on real easy. I put them on without taking the wheels off, but my buddy had an elbow/90 degree screwdriver.

With my car being lowered I couldn't even get the screw in position with the wheels on. I didn't think about that

winter tires are a must, even with awd summer rubber wont cut it in the cold temps and will be dangerous in the snow/ice. lots of nice new cars!

check out www.centralohiosubarus.com, this thread doesnt get too much attention

thanks. i actually just bought a set of enkei rpf-1s in silver 17x8.5 +40 with 245/40 hoosier rains. thinking about trying to trade them for some rota grids. im wanting to go a crazy color with the wheels, just to give it a shot.

do you have any mods done to it?

Wheels did not need to come off, assuming you have the elbow/90 degree screwdriver airwg2189 mentioned... they are nice to have anyways. like $8 @ Harbor freight. I keep mine in my laptop bag (wh/ is always w/ me anywas) LOL. install was easy when I did mine & Zack's, LMK if you want a hand w/ yours.

I'm much more active posting on COS, but definitely need to Sub to this thread!, gonna do that now.

New wrx owner in Cincy, seems like most of you are North but I'd be down for a meet if we got enough people. Btw I just bought and installed RA mudflaps and its def. doable without taking your wheels off, if its not lowered that is. And they look sick

I took my M3, my old GTI and my Dakota to them and was satisfied every time. I plan to take my wife's '12 WRX to them in the spring.

You will be happy.
