Post soft brake pedal

I only have 600 miles on my 2001 2.5 RS, but it seems as if the brake pedal is pretty soft. The car seems to stop just fine but just not a lot of brake pedal feel. Is this normal for Subes or do I need to have it looked at ?

Yeah, It's normal for Subarus. I thought the same thing when I first got mine. If you really can't stand it, get a single stage brake booster, and maybe some SS lines from SPD, TRi, Rallispec, etc.

Maybe its some rust built in between the pad and piston, you could try to remove the metal plate that on the brake pad and remove the rust, it may make the padel feel better!!

Bleed the brakes. It will help take some of the softness out of the pedal. However, we are blessed with a dual stage booster on our brakes which results in the soft pedal feel. Its what SOA thought we wanted... *sigh*

thanks for all the info guys, I appreciate it. On a related note, would changing to braided stainless steel brake lines help ? I have done that on all my motorcycles over the years but they aren't power assisted systems.

Yes, braided stainless lines will help....a LITTLE bit, but the BIG change to a MUCH firmer pedal comes fom the Single Stage Brake Booster. SPD (www.spdusa.com), ISR (www.autocaresubaru.com), and a few others have them.

I concur with the brake booster. Here is a portion from a similar topic (four pots / street)

Quote:
the brake booster would give you a much better pedal feel (as well as saving you some cash from going with the four pots and rotors) According to Mike Shields ( www.spdusa.com ) the booster and new pads is more than sufficient for a road car (he didn't seem to think the lines were needed, and did not have them on his car at the time I went to visit him).
