Unhappy I got the STi rear clunking noise, what dealership fixed yours?

I have the infamous rear clunking noise tons have experienced on their STi's so I'm going to take it to a dealership to have it fixed. Good think because I'm at the 35.7K miles . Anyway I don't want to waist my time, and get BS run-around "o sir that's normal for that high performance car" . So what dealership did you take yours and what was your experience? Any advice is appreciated.

I would just start calling them and tell them you have the STi rear strut clunk. If they don't know what you are talking about, call the next one.

Don Beyer in Alexandria, VA seems to be really good. I'm sure if you talk to Jackie at Annapolis, she can refer you to the service writer there.

I thought calling as an option but I can just hear them saying: "O I'm sure you must have a problem, come on in and we'll have our excellent mechanic take a look at it for you"... Really, dealing with people for things like this aggravates me to no end. I was about to PM Jackie and ask her if she knew about the issue and her dealership has dealt with this issue but I thought I’d have more luck asking here first. Maybe she’s bored enough to read this post and I’ve killed two birds with one hood scoop?

But it can also be switched to Front or rear. That can lead to a clunking noise.

Read up on lubing the struts. I had great luck with this.

I got my right rear strut replaced @ Wilkins under warranty when I had a bad case of the rear strut clunk.

It's the reverse attitude when you're still under warranty. Warranty work pays next to nothing (actually costs the mechanic time on occasion), so no one wants to bring extra warranty work in. This is why I couldn't get my clutch judder done before warranty was up - the runaround.

Well my point with that is that they won't listen to my problem and give me feedback as to if they know about the problem or not.
I wonder if there are any service bulletins ot there on this problem. Anyone?

Well I'd rather have them replace/fix the problem under warranty than to try sort of fix it. If this happens after the 36k then I'd DIY them.

Tell them if they won't help you diagnose this and fix this under warranty then your next call is to SOA. This seems to fix 99% of problems like this that I've seen under the "Maintance and Warranty" forum.

There is a lot of discussion about the rear strut clunk here, including the "lube it up" fix: http://iwsti.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19713

Actually, it can't. It can be variably switched between open and locked. Not front or rear.

A friend fixed the clunk in his STI by installing some sort of a bushing kit. His username is STI_FFY.

There are a few clunks.

I'm guessing this one might have to do with the rear diff.

Na, it's an 05, which is why I'm rather skeptical as to whether this is the notorious clunk or not. It seems to rather than clunk, to tap or rattle at slow speeds. Like tap,tap...tap........tap,tap,tap.....IMO it’s like the rear diff. but I hope it isn’t.

My '05 struts were clunking. It's a problem with inverted strut designs, not specific model years.

Would you say my description of the sounds is similar to what you experienced? Was it just one "CLUNK" or was it like randomly spaced muffled taps?</SPAN>
