Disconnect the negative battery cable for about 45 minutes to an hour.Reconnect and start the car, allow it to idle for about 30 minutes and do not touch the gas pedal.Turn the car off after 30 minutes restart and take er for a spin.I've read and experienced for myself that gas mileage will dip quite noticeably. Many have claimed check engine problems but I haven't.Almost forgot, resetting the ecu allows the computer to relearn the amount of air being sucked in to the engine and compensating with the appropriate amount of fuel or something like that.Does that help any???

I've changed intakes and other things numerous times and have had to reset the ECU every time. I usually disconnect for the length of the job and then let it idle for about 10-15 mins, and have never had a single problem. Remeber, dont put your foot on the gas at all when you start her back up.

One other thing...
If you have the keyless entry, or factory alarm, keep the remote handy cause it will go off when you hook the battery back up. (kind of obvious if you have an alarm, but I just have the keyless entry and couldn't figure out why my lights were flashing - till I reset it with the remote) |

One thing I figured out the last time I reset my ecu is that if you put the key in the ignition and turn it to "on" and THEN connect the battery, the alarm doesn't go off!

Has anyone tried the way that Brett describes on his MRT website? Go here and take a look:
http://www.mrtrally.com.au/performance/howresetecu.htm I looked for the connectors last summer and couldn't find what he was describing, but I did drive my car right after starting the engine. Did some redline runs, pulled over to shut off the engine and restart, and it felt faster (but that was by the un-scientific butt-dyno method). I'd be interested to see if the US models have those connectors to do this method. If someone successfully does it this way, please take pics and post them! -Chris [This message has been edited by cakagan (edited March 26, 2001).] |

I tried putting the key on the ON position before connecting the battery. Does not work for me.
