Came on two times. Once a few weeks ago and turned off. I checked it and it was in between the dots so in ignored if for a while. Then light game back on and I checked again and it was below the bottom dot so I threw some oil in and took of to soa. I'll wait and see what happens before I complain. The weird thing is that in my first 5k miles before my oil change I didn't have anything like this going on. Wonder if soa put in a different viscosity?

I assume when you're saying "soa" above, you're actually referring to your dealership.

Regardless, having such a dramatic change after everything was good for the first 5k miles is very suspicious. The first thing I'd be doing is checking the engine compartment to make sure I don't see any leaks from the oil filter or oil filler cap (you've probably already done that). If that reveals nothing unusual, my next step would be to jack up the car and look around for leaks (especially at the drain plug).

Consumption changes like you're describing don't happen over night. I'd suspect a leak.

As you may recall I took delivery on 1 December, 2011. I was the first known case of the airbag malfunction which SOA was investigating. They brought 4 Japanese engineers over to tear apart the car to find the root cause. At any rate, they had the car for over a month. I received a new car (my old one only had 500 miles) because this was a safety concern and it wasn't solved in a timely manner. Now they have a TSB with the fix, so any cars having this problem can be fixed.

I'm def going to keep an eye on it. I'm hoping they said nothing was wrong but found the drain plug was loose or something. Hard to find time working two jobs and going to school :/

How many miles do you have on it since the last oil change?

Unhappy Oil Light Number 3

As predicted at 3000km on the nut, oil light. So that's three lights in the first 10000km (first scheduled oil change)
My dealer has started the oil consumption test so we will see how much exactly how much is truly being consumed. My only beef is this is my 5th Subaru, and have never even had to think about oil. I suggested to the Service Manager if this car is somehow ok, that they should consider selling the car with a case of oil. Will let you know what the outcome is.

I did my first oil change with 1700 miles on the odometer. It's now 4500 miles later, and no oil consumed.

I'm not suggesting that this has anything to do with it, but I used Amsoil OE 0W20 at my first oil change, and will use it again in 500 miles when I change my oil again.

Somewhat unrelated... but for those with the squeaky seat issue here... I printed the post & diagram from tornado542 DIY fix & taped it to the dash for the tech to see. Didn't want to bother or confuse the counter girl who checks me in. Talked to my friend who sold me the car & he said the tech was appreciative & it pointed him straight to the problem. Said without it they may not have had the time or support from SOA to fully investigate it under a warranty issue. They're using it & submitting it to SOA to see if they can get a TSB for this issue started. Nice work tornado542!

Sorry to hear that. If they replace it with the same cheap part it will likely happen again. But then I'll bring it right back when it does. My dealership is great & they're trying to make it a TSB which should hopefully push Subaru to come up with a better solution or material to wrap the springs in for future assemblies.

I'm not sure what's creaking in my seat. The tech showed me how he added foam rubber to the parts that make contact.
I'm almost at 800 miles and no noticeable drop in oil level. It *may* be due to *possibly* a thicker oil. But my next change I'm doing myself and going 0w30, if it burns any I may go up to a 5w. Or I may just go with amsoil oe in 5w30.
This is the most optimistic about the car I've been in months.

he XV Crosstrek offers two trim levels: the 2.0i Premium and the more upscale 2.0i Limited. Both models are powered by the 2.0-liter, DOHC, 16-valve inline, SUBARU BOXER four-cylinder engine that cranks out 148 hp at 6,200 rpm, along with 145 lb ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. See it up close.

this was in an email from soa about the new xv.
Earlier I said that soa didn't have a clue about the cars, I love their description of the engine as an "inline 16v boxer". They really know cars over there!

Well at a tick over a thousand miles, just drove to work and let it sit an hour. Dipstick is reading a good 1/4 down from my previous scribe mark. Bummer.
Gonna go ahead and try 5w30, its much more readily available and cheaper. Planning on getting a 5qt jug of Castrol synthetic from wallyworld this week. And order a six pack of filters and washers.
Time to take the bull by the horns.

If you only have 1k miles since the last oil change, I would think you could just leave the existing filter installed.

I'm gonna do it scientifically, well, at least more scientifically than the dealers. And I don't mix viscosities of oil. I wanna see what an even 5qts of 5w30 synthetic looks like on the dipstick. Then see if it burns it any slower.
So- new, thicker oil, a new filter, a new plug washer. Will pour a 5 quart jug in, and if need be, I can put the .3 quart in.
My coolant is slowly but surely dropping as well. Still haven't had the time to look for a leak.

We are at ~8500 miles with no issues on the car. Car doesn't burn any oil at all. Runs like a charm. We love it.

Yeah, I tried it SUBARU's way. That has been fruitless. Since, in effect, I DON'T have a *real* warranty, and the folks at soa and Bill Bryan are horrible at their jobs, I may as well commence with the making of the lemonade...

i'm interested as well for the future. 5w-30 shear down pretty quick, faster than 0w30 but should still be overall higher viscosity than the ow20 we have now.

I just filled my Buick up with 0w30 today for the first time. Spec is 10w30, i have tried 5w30 but i don't like it (consumption/leaks). Just can't bring myself to try some rotella 5w40 in it, it has 223k on the clock. Maybe in the spring
