Tire size on stock '06 17"s
I need some new rubber and want to go wider than the 215/45/17 that are on it right now. The tires I want are 235/40/17 BFG KDWS. Had em before on a previous car and liked them. I Plan on getting some springs in the very near future as well. Will I have any issues with the tires being wider? Taller? I think they will be fine but just want other opinions.

too wide...225/45 is about it on a 17x7
get some 17x8's if you want wider tires kdws arent the greatest and they get LOUD more research |

I've heard so much of that they get loud. I had 2 sets of 17's on my prelude and never noticed.

If you really want to, you can mount 235/40R17 on your stock 17x7. BUT you might run into a problem with the tire rubbing the strut under high loads.
Skip Barber racing mounts 235/40R17 BFG R1 on the stock 17x7 wheels on their MX-5 racing school. 225/45R17 will fit fine on the 17x7 06 wheels. Many people mount the RE070 on their stock 06 wheels. |

Do you really need all season tires where you live? Get some tires that have great steering response as in having stiff sidewalls. Dunlops direzza sport Z1 star spec tires are awesome for that as they have steel cord reinforced two ply sidewalls.

I've got a good deal on the KDW's. I snowboard a lot so I would like something that performs well in the wet too. I'm going to go with 235's. Its not going to rub and If 255s fit on stock '07 sti rims then I should be good. If not then well...

i don't understand.. other than going snowboarding, does it constantly snow where you are?? from what i've read on and off here, you'd want smaller tires in that type of weather and basically just snow tires, not all seasons.. all seasons are mediocre tires with mediocre performance, they don't do well in anything.. kdws are mediocre tires that do just ok in dry and wet, that's it

225/45/17 requires 7.0" of rim width
235/45/17 requires 7.5" of rim width 225/40/17 requires 7.5" of rim width 235/40/17 requires 8.0" of rim width It is well well out of spec to put 235/40/17 tires on 17x7" rims. Stick to 225/45/17 if you want width on those rims. |

Track conditions and road conditions are totally different. Putting a low profile tire like 235/40/17 on a narrow rim, you will not be getting the sidewall absorption the tire is designed for. On a race track, who cares. When you hit a relatively small pothole and dent your rim, you'll know it's because you put on a tire that's totally out of spec.
40 sidewall should not be more than a 20% stretch. 245 on 7.0" is 37.8% stretch. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO SPEC! |

I don't want ppl to think that running a 235/40/17 is fine on a 17x7 if you are trying to do any sort of track duty. I bought it because A:I wanted to build up the rest of my car and B: needed some tires for the mean time. The KDW's are great tires, regarding their treadwear. For those that have posted, I'm not an idiot, and knew they would fit, as well as knew there would be a compromise for the width. I still love the rubber. It is the same reason I got Cobb springs. I wanted a great look while I saved the money to get my car to turn on a dime. The tires have been great, a little loud like I knew, but great wet handling. Cobb springs suck, but we knew that. Got the drop I wanted. If ppl want to throw 235's on a 7" rim they will work fine, depending on offset. Stock=straight. The KDW's have the XL load on the 235/40 sidewall which helps on the stretch.
