WRX Seat swap
Ok, so i have read numerous threads about people taking out the WRX seats and replacing them with aftermarket seats and then what to do about the airbag light, etc.
However, what i have been unable to find is for those who take the WRX seats and place them in say an OBS, is it possible to utilize the SRS in a nonSRS car? I mean, is the airbag sensor unit within the seat itself or is there a sensor/relay elsewhere in the car that needs to be removed from the wrx and added to the OBS in addition? basically i would like more comfortable (WRX seats) than my OBS and if possible, have the safety of SRS also. thanks.

You'd need side impact sensors and all the wiring to make it work.
The only thing that's contained in the seat itself is the bag unit and the wiring that connects it to the main SRS loom. I'd say don't bother with trying to get the SRS to work on your OBS. Not because it's a bad thing but it's just a PITA IMO. -mykr. |

i've been thinking about doing this in my wrx, to get eh jdm STi seats, but they don't have airbags, and on the japanparts.com site, it says it won't work with cars that have side airbags, is this true? can't i just put them in and not have side airbag funtionality?

Yes, you can swap the JDM seats into your '03 WRX but you'll get an airbag light unless you make some sort of resistor to trick the SRS ECU into thinking that there are SRS bags in the seats.
Just remember that your insurance company might not like it if they find out... -mykr. |
