Widest tire size on stock 16" Bugeyes ??
Alright, I'm about to get some tires cause my 92's are dying fast. I wanted to know, though, what's the widest and tallest tires I can fit on those stock 16's ? If you guys can give me the biggest numbers, I can make sure I get something in between that and the stock size. Thanks in advance for the help.

The stock wheels are 6.5 inches wide. People will cram 225/50-16 on the wheel which calls for a minimum of a 7 inch wide wheel. Do not go past 225/50-16.

Widest you could possibly squeeze is probably a 245/45. But I wouldn't recommend it unless you're competing in DS autox and they're Hoosiers.

you have decided that the industry standard measuring rim width of 7 inches for this size tire is now the "minimum" or "recommended" width for these tires, which of course is not the case. The manufacturers have standarized this rim width for this tire so that the consumer can compare section width from tire to tire. The tires will perform better with a wider wheel, of course - no argument - but it is not unsafe to run 225/50x16 on the 16x6.5 WRX stock alloys, merely sub-optimal. In fact, members of this board have raced 225/50x16 Victoracers on the 16x6.5 stock wheels with no ill effect. The tires will perform better with 16x7, but better still with 16x7.5 or 16x8. wider wheels will always offer better dry cornering performance - whether everyone can notice this difference on the street is another matter if you want to maximize the dry handling of your WRX and you can't afford new wheels at this time, 225/50x16 max performance tires are the best and easiest way to accomplish this. alternatively, if you are more interested in looks or in going with a lighter and underdriven tire size to improve acceleration in all gears, the 205/50x16 size has something going for it as well, and is actually closer in diameter to the "real" WRX tire size - 215/45x17 RE011's - than the NA spec 205/55x16 RE92's. |
