255/35-18 on a 9.5"
I'll be rolling it at Fizz Autosports in Chicago. 50 bucks a side. They do Bentleys, and lots of cars well into the 6 figure range. I think they can handle my car. :-)

Ok, *****? Wheel dude just called me back and for the 9.5" 38 offset I have to run a 5mm spacer? Is this fail or ok?
Sigh... I love those wheels. I'd hate to change. |

spacers are a pita.. can't you find a wheel with the right offset to begin with? Not thrilled about less threads holding your wheels on if you do any track days, either
A 255 would fit nicely on a 9" wide rim. I love the way my wide 245's fit 8.5" |

That's a caliper clearance issue. I am against spacers since I don't trust having a glorified shim between the hub and the wheel. Most spacers are aluminum and can distort easily making it questionable if your wheels are properly torqued. That's my theory, the stance and fitment people will say otherwise I'm sure.
Buy wheels that fit. It's what I'd do. Fortunately for most of us our biggest worries are fhi four pots. |

Skip wheel spacers at all cost!!!
Shannon, I can't make the DM event this month but want to chip in something for Matts trophy, how? Also my bosses son apparently test drove a brand new WRX in grey the other night at DM West so they must have gotten some inventory in as well. They hated whatever exhaust was on it so the purchase is still being thought about. |

Well *****. I want to do things properly so I guess they're not an option. (grumble)
Seriously, are spacers THAT bad? (whining) Does it change anything that these will be my daily drivers and occasional autocrossers? (Meaning I won't be swapping) Probably not... Can I do a 18x8.5, 5x114.3/e44/73 and put that 255 on it? It doesn't say I need spacers with those specs but it's an 8.5 width. Dang it all to.... the 9.5 looks sooo much better but having your wheels pop off is a much worse look. :-) 8.5: 9.5: |

Tried looking for wheels for ya, but almost all the decent concave wheels I can find are nowhere close to being correct for a Subaru (all I can find is stuff for BMW's and exotics). :/
MAN wheel preference in the Subaru community has changed in the last 2 years or so. I cant keep up (must be getting older) Not used to seeing so many people kinda doing the VW thing from 5+ years ago. |

Well, let's just say the word Volk probably won't enter the discussion. :-)
Rotas were $1000 so I would say right around $1100. I'd probably go a little more for the right solution. If I stick with the spacer I will ABSOLUTELY change the studs - that's going to be 100 bucks plus another set of lugs for my winters because the studs are 1" longer than factory. I want to go punch something. Any road-crossing small woodland creatures, consider yourself warned today. |

Jim: tire rack sells the tr motorsport mt1 in 18x9.5 with caliper clearance for a little over 1200 a set. That gets your width and clearance you're looking for in a pretty lightweight wheel. Trying to find verification of go the producer of tr is. Rumors abound that it is rays/volk. Just looking for verification.

Not trying to rationalize - but exploring options. H&R does make a spacer with the studs in them. (Not exact model, but I took a quick look) I wouldn't mind having a custom job either. I LIKE THESE WHEELS. :-) http://www.perrinperformance.com/pro...X-?category=46 |

Not really. The stock tires aren't that great and are certainly worthless come cold or snow. Use these few months to destroy them before putting snows on the stock wheels. Have fun with the car before you upgrade. What's the worst that happens? You discover the stock tires respond better than you expect and you still upgrade anyways?

They west side was keeping that car a real tight secret. We only knew about it after one of our guys took a drive out there a few days ago. It's a ghost car that doesn't even show up in Subaru's or our inventories. New car though. It is kind of like the new 2010 sitting up in Green Bay. 'bout crapped my pants when I walked in and saw it sitting there with the "impossible" boost gauge on the dash. As far as wheel spacers go, I can say...Only when absolutely necessary. You'll need to get new wheel bearings if you do 5mm because you also need to install new lug bolts...which involves pulling the hub and messing up the bearings. If you do spacers, you need to go 15mm+. This will allow you to bolt the spacers onto the stock lugs and use the lug bolts on the spacers to mount the wheels. It will cause you to have to change the offset for the wheels, though. I'm running 5mm in the back left and washers on the right so I don't rub the struts. (Conti DWS have a soft sidewall that bulges more than the M3s I was running at the same size) The spacers were cheaper than new wheels at the time. Oh, only have them on the left because I needed bearings after only 1 year. Josh saved my butt and installed them for me. One other thing to consider is how the car will respond to steering input with a slightly narrower track in the rear. If you are running a different set of wheels/tires for autocross, you may WANT spacers up front and not in the back to get it to come around a little quicker. It's the same reason why I don't run an upgraded sway in the back but I have the massive Tribeca sway up front. I want the rear to lean a bit more to unload the inside tire and carve the corner a bit sharper. Last edited by antitarmac; 06-07-2011 at 11:33 PM. |

Wouldn't you want to sell a highly sought after car? Perhaps you keep it on the show room floor for awhile to draw people but a secret? |
