What exactly do I need to add sub/amp to factory HU, confused as ever.
Hey guys, I've been searching around quite a bit on this topic and ended up confused as hell.
I want to add an amp/sub (and a ktp-445u possibly) to my 2018 wrx premium, which I believe has the 7'' starlink headunit, (non HK). I have an older alpine type r 8'' (SBR-S8-4) that came in a premade ported enclosure that I'd like to use https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500SBR...gaAhjMEALw_wcB. I have an Alpine MRP-M500 mono amp that I had hooked up to my type R 12'' (SWR-1242D) but when I hooked up the 8" it seemed severely underpowered, like it was receiving 100 rms or something, I'm sure I had it wired wrong for the 8" but the 12" hit super hard. I'd like to reuse this amp if possible but if it's the wrong match for the SBR-S8-4 I don't mind getting something else. I also want to add more power to the stock speakers, I'm just confused on which route to take. My thoughts at this point are do I add one 5 channel amp to power the speakers + sub, or should I buy an alpine ktp-445u to power the speakers and a separate amp for the sub? I'm looking for the easiest/most efficient way. If someone can help me put a parts list together that would be incredible, I think I need some of this? (10+6 pin harness, audiocontrol LCi2) http://ae64.com/10-6-pincombinedharness.htm https://www.crutchfield.com/S-kFJqNd...gaAgrxEALw_wcB I already have amp wiring kit from my old car. I'm trying to keep the stock HU because I want to keep it looking stock and also keep all of the functionality of starlink etc. I've done all my HU installs and amps/subs in my last three cars so I have some small amount of knowledge on the process but when looking into this car it's been much more confusing than my previous vehicles. I just want to get everything I need ordered so I can tear into it sooner rather than later since the stock sound is atrociously bad, worse than my first car (2003 kia spectra), not even kidding. Thanks for any help!

actually changing the radio isnt so bad, and it retains starlink if you use the right pieces. I would do a high powered radio and use the amp you have and sub. Then look at radios that integrate far better than our ****ty radios did. carplay and android auto can be had now for really good prices.
my 2 cents |

Ideally for now I'd like to just add the ktp-445u power pack and my SBR-S8-4 subwoofer. I know it won't be audiophile grade sound but that's ok with me, as long as it's better than stock (whoever made the call at subaru that this stock stereo was ok needs to be fired) Do you know off the top of your head what I would need to add the power pack and another amplifier for my sub? Thanks again After speaking with a chat representative at crutchfield, he said all I'd need is the AudioControl LC2i LOC and I'd be able to install the power pack and another amp for my sub, sound right? anyway, it should be fine the way you want to do it. I may even put my original unit back in and integrate it as well, as my external processor has multiple inputs. ive been doing audio in my vehicles since the late 80's....lol |
