Ordered a set of wheels in 18X9.5 +38 for my 16 STi. I was not planning on this size but, I got a decent deal.
Installing RCE Yellows the same time that the wheels are mounted. I have not pulled the trigger on tires just yet. Looking for an opinion. The car will not be tracked, just daily driven and spirited drives now and then. Looking for best overall comfort and do not want to roll the fenders on the yellows. What would be the best option? Looking at: 255/35, 255/40, 265/35 if it will fit. I appreciate the help!

Putting on 18x9.5 +38 wheels soon with stock suspension, possibly lowering in the future. I know I could go 265/35 safely but am comtemplating 275/35. Anyone done that? What's required and could I get away with it without rolling on stock suspension? I've looked and can't find much on 275s

Most likely using an AP3, and switching between maps.

Pretty sure you need a custom tune to run Cobb Flex Fuel. They're working on OTS maps, last I checked.

Also in for info on 275/35. After a some intense digging, I found 2 owner that runs them, but they literally posted one picture without showing much spec.

One guy on this post with a dark blue wrx said:
"18x9.5 +40, 275/35, no fender mod", but provided only one picture

Another with a red:
"18x9.5 RPF1"

Emailed MachV and they said their 18x9.5 +42 MIGHT work, but can't confirm.

Would love if someone would give a detail configuration on running 275/35/18.

I'm looking for the Avid AV-20 and many peoples have those, but I can't decide between 18x9.5 +38 and 18x8.5 +33 can someone explain me the advantage/disadvantage of one over the other? I have a Stock 2015 WRX

Thanks!

275/35 will fit given the right wheel/tire...no fender mods. or just run a 17.

i just got back from tire rack earlier this morning and i went from 18x9.5 +38 255/35 to 17x9.5 +38 275/40
its super flush no poke. it has to be the right wheel and tire combo though as all tires in the same spec are not created equal. in my case there were no affordable 265/40 17 so i pretty much didn't have any choice but to run 275. tire rack even said its within spec so we test fit and it was a go. rpf1s and a narrow sumitomo
no work no roll no pull no hassle on mess and definitely no rub.

18s are too heavy
probably could have gone 18x10 +38 on a 265 i doubt a 275 on a 10 in wheel would fit. i would say my setup is the limit and even at that caution has to be taken as to tire choice. no conti dws or pss for me won't fit in 275 but others will...
pics later if i get around to it.

do not buy those wheels. they are trash. i have owned them and had an issue balancing one wheel. i got tire rack (did not purchase wheels from them) to sort it out but it took multiple trips balances/ tire pressure adjustments. it was not the tires it was the wheels. they are budget wheels with ****ty casting tolerances. use only if you absolutely have to. spend an extra few hundred for kosei or rota. **** xxrs even, get some 527s or 527 forged. do not buy avid.1 wheels.

ps. you can scratch the finish of with the light stroke of a finger nail and they weigh 24+ lbs (i weighed them) 50 lbs per corner with tires will really bogg the car down quite a bit. my advice to everyone is to get 17s even sti guys 17x10 with 265 or 275

edit: might i add they are made in chinois if that means anything to you.

anybody in the midwest want a set of avid av20 with some brand new 255 35 hit me in a pm 18x9.5 +38 blue ill sell them for a reasonable price.

.
There are several people on the forums that own these wheels and I haven't heard them complain about any of this. Sure, the finish might not be the best but that is expected with cheap wheels. Obviously a forged wheel or better brands like enkei would be the better wheel option but they cost nearly twice as much. Also the premium and limited 18" wheels for the 2016 models weigh almost 27lbs and are only 8.5" wide. Also one of my factory wheels had 5.25oz of weights in one spot and when I mounted snow tires to them the same amount of weight was added in nearly the same place.

you do what you want on your car. I'm not going to argue and i know that people will buy and run them. id just like to share my bad experience and caution others that are on the fence. as i said xxr (same price point) makes wheels that fit our cars as well and they are of far more substantial quality than avid.1 av20s.

my tires weigh 28lbs but my wheels only weigh 17 so it works out... thats 8 lbs per corner from 18x9.5 av 20s with 255s. you will feel that.

on my vehicle even with a 275 the car is not nearly as restricted as when i had the avids on earlier today.

all in all you get one season either a fall winter or a spring summer out of these wheels. but hey they are so cheap you can replace them one at a time as needed right...ive been running chinese knockoff wheels for years avid.1 av20s were the first and only budget wheels i had a problem with.

XXR wheels are pieces of ****. Rota has, so far, been the only budget wheel to consistently exceed expectations. Hell, race teams use them. I don't see anyone rocking XXR.

Even at 24lbs, its lighter than stock. Most 17x9.75+ or whatever stupid **** sizing XXR uses is ALSO ~24lbs per wheel.

"you will feel that" if you came from a significantly lighter wheel like a TS-1 or RPF1. Realize that race teams run 18x9.5-18x10 Rotas that weigh 21-22lbs.

Also understand that noone really gives a **** about your opinion. You made your comment, no need to make post after post regurgitating it.

18x8.75 527 are like 17 lbs. coming from the stock wheel/tire to the avid had a significant impact on performance.

understand its a forum and someone might need that exact information bc i didn't find it anywhere else. but hey like i said they are **** wheels no one will argue that point. btw I'm a huge proponent of less expensive wheels; just not those.

xxrs are run on formula drift cars if you call that racing. they have a few very reliable options 527 being chief among those. i run them for winters w/e dude do what you want on your car.

wrong. 23lbs.

The stock 2015 wrx wheels are 24lbs. The 18x8.5 STI bbs are 22lbs.

All cheap wheels are exactly that. Cheap. Arguing that one cheap brand is better than the other is pretty moot. Will they roll down the street? Yep. Do they have manufacturing defects like every other product in existence? Yep.

For a daily will it even matter? Nope.

If your argument is that "drift cars use them", I will immediately ignore your argument. You see all sorts of "drift" cars built with the absolute ****tiest of parts. Outside of grassroots motorsports (drifting, autocross, lower levels of rally x) and into club sanctioned racing - you don't see Megan, BC, Raceland, XXR, on any of those cars.

The point is - people can buy whatever the hell they want to buy.
