Default Check Engine Light

I'm a novice at working on cars much..... I obtained some instructions from this site on how to disable the daytime running lights. They said to unplug a module under a cover above the airbox. There is a cover there, with two thumbscrews, and I removed it and unplugged the unit. It didn't, however, have a "high temperature" label on the front of it, as the instructions said, and it didn't shut off the lights. So I plugged it back in but now the cel is on. Anybody know how to reset it, other than borrowing a code reader? Thanks!

Disconnect the neg battery terminal or the ground wire on top of the engine and mash the brake down for 15 seconds or so.
It will hard reset the ECU, but you may still get the CEL, if it happens go to autozone and heve them read it for free.

Get the code checked, do not disconnect the battery as this will erase the code so it can no longer be read. You want to know what the light is for so you can deal with it properly, it might be from what you did or it might be unrelated and just coincidence that it came on at the same time.
Go to Autozone and they will read it for free, get the exact code in Pxxxx format and post it here.
Then, to properly disable your daytime running lights, go to the Electrical and Lighting forum and search through the threads there. There is plenty of information on how to do it the right way.

He accidentally unpluged the boost control selenoid. That's all it was. The module for DRL is not under that cover... it a little lower to the right of the cover between the turbo and passenger side strut tower. It looks like a silver Snickers bar... or about that size. If you do find it and unplug it, make sure you tie the plug out of the way so that it doesn't melt on any of the exhaust components or turbo manifold. Good luck.

+1

When I removed my daytime running light module i almost unplugged the boost solinoid as well. I noticed that it didn't have a high temp sticker on it so i didn't. He's right, it's a little further down and kind of a biatch to get at.

You folks are the greatest. I'll let you know what the code was after I get it read and reset! And thanks for the better description of the DRL module, Civic!

They are probably correct, but it's best to get the code as a precaution and to confirm that's all it was.

Wow, you guys are good. The code was P0245, which means "wastegate control solenoid valve circuit low output". Had the guy at AutoZone read it and clear it. Didn't come back on after that. And, Civic, I found the silver "Snickers Bar", so i know what to do now! Thanks to all for your help.
