Default Abs Fixed!

My dealer just installed a new hydraulic pump and so far I can't replicate the ABS problem!

I will go out later and try to get it do "act up." (hopefully it won't)

You know what might be the funny thing I just thought of. We've been all asuming that the issue might be an over sensitive ABS due to whatever reason (argued that enough).

But it could possibly be an ABS system that reacts to slowly! In simple terms it doesn't modulate fast enough. So the wheel stays locked up to long and then allows to much free spin and back and forth. This would show as a long braking distance. This could be caused by a pump that doesn't provide enough flow quickly enough.

This is just a thought, but it does fit the issue. Basically it would be like stomping on the brakes and then letting off, then stomping on it again, then letting off. Rather than "modulating" the brakes to impending lock up.

Hmmmmmmm.......I've never heard of this on a car in production, but it is possible.

Just speculation for now.

That's what I was thinking as well. I asked the service people if they knew if it was larger or flowed more or anything different. They didn't know.

I have a part number (for the new one) if anyone can look into that kind of thing.

Is the part number different from the old one?

I'll see what mine is tomorrow morning.

But I bought my car about 40 days ago, so it's always possible Subaru changed the pump after the start of production and isn't calling a recall or posting a service sheet.

Changing components 90 days after the start of production is very common. They use the first 90 days as a "test run" to make sure they got it all right. It's refered to as "Job 1 plus 90 changes" in the US auto industry.

How did you "show" it to the dealership.
When I got on the brakes hard I was told that "ABS coming on was normal" when I tried to tell them "coming on like THAT is not normal" they refused to listen to me.

Sorry, but the P/N must be on the underside of the pump so I can't see it.

My rep told the dealer to drive the car using a speed sensor. I am assuming that is how they determined it was malfunctioning. I didn't actually take them for a drive myself. I had them look at it once to no avail. Then when I almost rear-ended a car on the highway I was very clear that I wanted it fixed.

I got mine fixed...go get yours fixed. Find a dealer to do it. I think the Subaru tech line is very aware of the problem.

Idiots. They could probably find out with a minimum of effort.
