I found out today that those Oakley microfiber pouches make a perfect Galaxy Nexus bag so I can throw my phone in my backpack on my rides into work. The last GC I bought had 3 of them in the glove box.

After setting two alarms this morning and apparently pushing snooze too quickly, I confused my GNX which forced me to turn it off while the alarm was going off at full blast. Girlfriend was quite unamused.

Wait. So you are justifying that they omitted the card slot because you believe SD cards are outdated? Now I have to ask if you are high. The reality of it is, Google doesn't feel like fixing their OS to play well with SD cards so they omit the SD card reader on their reference designs. This was not something I was aware of until after I bought the phone. I'm sure I will love the phone, but it would be nice to be able to continue to backup my phone to an SD card. The option for me to do that has been removed and when manufacturers remove options from their devices, it is never a good thing.

ok ok. since you're so deadset on backing things up to sdcard, would buying a usb otg cable so you can make backups to a flash drive suffice?

But then how would I charge the phone? I did nightly backups, well technically early morning (every 3:00am I believe). I'm sure I will find some sort of rsync app or something like that where it can rsync to my file server every night, so that will solve my problems of not being able to do nightly backups to sd. But, it is the principal of omitting the sd card out of laziness that bothers me the most about it.

It's not out of laziness, retard. SD cards are slow, insecure, and pointless. eMMC is the future and Google is pushing for no SD cards in any phone.

Not out of laziness? Well, the articles I have read on the reasons behind it really point to it being the case. Apps don't run well on SD cards and rather than try to fix that they just want to try to get rid of SD cards on Android devices all together. Problem for them is that no other manufacturer will omit SD slots from any of their other Android phones and so what they are trying to do is pointless. As far as SD cards being slow - not really. Class 10 cards read at ~24 MB/s and write at ~12 MB/s. Plenty fast for many operations. As far as it being pointless, no it isn't pointless at all. I've already shown there is a good use for SD cards and that is being able to do nightly backups easily and being able to restore those backups easily should the phone fail.

P.S. Walk into a door of vaginas.

I am with AOD on this, not having a SD card is retarded, another reason is flashing ROMs. Let's say you screw up and your phone doesn't boot past recovery, with a SD card you put the rom on the sd card and flash from recovery but with no external sd card you're ****ed.

No one's argueing that SDcards are pointless. Just not needed.

Also: I miss USB storage mode. I can live without it, however it HAS reduced SOME of the utility of my phone.

Furthermore: There are pro's and con's to everything. The fact that the GNex has no SD card was not a secret so if you bought the phone and were then surprised that it has no SD card that's YOUR OWN DAMN FAULT.

I'm with aod on this one. The lack of SD card slot is annoying. You can say "the cloud is the future" all you want, but even for a relatively tech savvy person like myself, the easiest way for me to get all my music onto my new phone is to take my SD card out of my current phone and slap it in the new phone.

This... And you can carry multiple cards with all kinds of different data on them.

I agree with you there. I think I alluded to it in my first post about my issue with it. I incorrectly assumed it would have an SD card slot and then was surprised when I found out it didn't (after I ordered it). If I had known about this limitation beforehand, I may have considered holding off and waiting for the SG II HD or SG III, but probably not. I really want to get off AT&T's slow ass network and Verizon just recently rolled their LTE network out here. So, I get onto their faster network and get a bigger screen with better resolution? Take my money!

So I'm trying to search out aluminum bumpers for the tmob version of the Galaxy S2 (T989) and am coming up empty...

For those of you with this version, found anything like it?...or suggest one you dig?...

It's even easier to upload all your music into Google Music one time, then have your phone sync it.

Who needs multiple sd cards? Especially with 16gb and 32gb cards so common. I was kind of bummed at first too about not having an sd card on my Galaxy Nexus, but it's a complete non-issue. If you brick your phone to the point that it doesn't boot, an sd card isn't going to save you anyway; grab a factory image and flash it.

You can still plug your phone in and copy files to/from the "sd card" just like you would have before. The only time you'll ever lose that data is when you unlock it or intentionally wipe it (or something more terrible happens to the phone).

If only the phone had some sort of low level hardware access for recovery. It could be fast and it could help you boot the phone. They could call it...bootfast!

I'm hostile towards aod because that's the only form of communication he understands!

Oh those silly gays! They already do have that! It's called fastboot.

Also: Trollololololol

Furthermore: The everyday usability of a faster phone outweighs the marginal utility of having an SD card.

So you don't believe you could get the same type of phone as a replacement and put the SD card with your backup on it into that phone and then restore that backup? Interesting.

I'm sure that will help you a lot when the phone won't even power on.

Please explain how having an SD card somehow makes a phone slower.

That looks awesome, but if you're partial to a specific headphone/ear bud I would test fit it if you find one.

When an app stores data on the SD card or your pictures are stored on the SD card and SD cards are slower to read and write to then anything that has to access that data is slower. Few, if any, phones COME with a class 10 card.

Also: Don't be obtuse. Yes SD cards are nice in their own way but not having one is hardly a obvious disadvantage without any advantages.

fastboot requires significantly more knowledge to use then slapping an image onto a SD card

that's like saying that clockwork recovery is useless since adb exists
