I love my STi and I have no desire to replace it but...
Drove and rode in a friends brand new gt-500 most of the weekend and dayum.

Great car, makes massive power to the wheels, stock. Tranny felt really good. Needs some suspension work as body roll felt terrible and it likes to roast tires.

Hes getting an E85 tune for it and expects to make ~700RWP

I have to say if I had the chance to drive this car before I bought my STi I prob would have got the stang. Wonder if I can talk the wifey into letting me have both

Anyone else have another car make them want to cheat on their suby

I've driven one and they are actually pretty fun and fast as much as I don't want to admit it (hatemustangs!).

But in the end handling wise/even all around power the STi is a much more of a car, don't think I could be impressed with the gt500 for too long besides the power lol but still a nice car.

The only car I've driven that I could really consider having a more serious r-ship with would be a new M3 coupe/or 4 door. I test drove one and I really enjoyed it and think it could be a real fun car everyday although a solid price tag but comparable with the shelby lol.

Too much money for what it is. Even when they put down massive numbers, they are still not as fast as other cars putting down similar numbers.
Looking for stupid rwhp, look at the 03-04 Cobras.

Did you mean wandering??

An E85 tune is going to net 200+ hp?! What else is done to the car to prep for that. I could be mistaken, but I don't think E85 will be that much of a gain. Again, could be completely wrong as I'm not overly familiar with the E85 tuning scene. But he could be just blowing smoke up your back side and you're enjoying it...

Fixed it for you.

Been looking into trading my car for a Focus ST lately. Really wish I could swing a mustang 5.0 with the brembos and recaros though

Ferrari 308 GTS or Porsche 911. I can afford 80's examples of either.

I'd probably go back to my subaru since it's faster and handles better.

And I know those feels for the 911.

You missed my point. Stock it roasts tires. So increase horsepower and torque so it can roast them even more easily? How is this a good thing? Unless he's going to put slicks on it and make it a 1/4 mile car.

Dooood dats easy, more powa!!!!

Pretty sure these things can do sub 10's with slicks and a little work. Which is nutty.

My STi cost 42k with ttl, and I have about 6k in mods on it, not exactly the 54K price of the gt500 but not 3x for sure.

I cheated on my first subie, with an FD rx7. It made triple the HP (550whp), but it just wasnt as fun to drive to me as my subie was, so I sold the FD and am now in the process of building another subie. However my dads viper (2nd gen), I would give my left nut and my subie up for that monster!! OR an HPF e46 m3.

Many people would argue $35k+ is a lot of money for what an STi is too.

Well if you're interested in stupid power, you're probably a drag racer to begin with, which somewhat nullfies your point.

Never much a fan of pony cars myself. I'm a cyclist, skiier, camper, so I like practical performance. When I got in the Camaro and Mustang at the last LA auto show, I always am amazed at how something that takes up so much space can have such little room for people and stuff.

The Camaro more than the Mustang, but still, not great peformance cars for people with active lifestyles. More for people who buy cars for looks first, which is great if that makes them happy. It's just most people spend more time inside their cars driving them than outside looking at them.

Wow you paid 42k holy ****! You find one on a lot somewhere and pay the out the ass for it?

I just did a quick search earlier in cars.com that showed gt500's ranging from 70-95k but I didn't look past the first page of listings.

Ive never cared for mustangs or thier drivers so it hurts me inside a little to be enfatuated with this car.

Look, I love my Subaru, but this is why I dislike a good portion of the Subaru community, and why we get a bad rep/ name. There are so many excuses and incorrect information it kills me. There is so much "fanboi-ism" displayed in this thread it makes me want to kill puppies.

I'll do my best to not "flame on".

The gt500 does NOT cost 3x what a STI does. It costs about 1.5, if that.

The gt500 HANDLES better than the STI out of the box and is proven with lap times; Ford completey redesigned the pony car to handle very well. Do some research.

The gt500 makes ~660 crank horsepower and dynos consistently between 580-590 rwhp STOCK. 700whp is stupid easy to obtain. This is a 200mph car out of the box (again, do some research), don't talk it down like a bunch of other cars are faster.

Yes, it is spin city BECAUSE it makes so much power. I don't want to hear about blah blah but I have all wheel drive so I'll crush it 0-60. Pffft. A proper street tire (street radial) setup on this car will yank just like any AWD and then pull to 200mph when our coveted subaru hits a brick wall above 100mph.

Last but not least, the wrx/sti and the gt500 are not in the same class. Quit acting like they are/ the gt500 is some terrible buy.

I know it's hard to like mustangs in general as they have absolutely sucked, but fact of the matter is, Ford did a great job with this generation. No one is forcing you to like them, but you have to respect them now. Mustang GTs with the 5.0 are going 10's with basic bolt ons.

From reading this thread, if a person who knew nothing about cars came in, they would think the gt500 is worse than a civic si.

I know there will be someone who hops on and tells me to sell my Subaru and but a Ford, but I like my Subaru. It's a great car for what it is. I'm just not blind/ a Subaru fanboi who thinks any other car sucks. There are other platforms than are better than ours. There are other cars that are better than ours, and thats why they cost more.

End rant. Give me a minute to put my own flame suit on.

Which is normal. People never include the TOTAL cost to make it sound like they are the 1% that got some amazing deal.

OP, for me, its basically any lsX car, especially if its boosted. My best bud has a APS TT GTO, another friend has a procharged c6 z06. They pull like no other. In the end, there is no replacement for displacement. The torque they put out is as flat as Kansas to redline and gobs of it. It's nuts watching the needle go into the triple digits so easily.

Its because they are SPORTS cars. Not meant to be capable of fitting a bike or a kayak. A Camaro 1LE or a Mustang with the track pack (or the Boss) will eat any Subaru around the curviest track you can pick.

They are good at what they aim to do. Which is be a sports car. Subaru aims at being a sport-y car with the ability to fit the needs of a person who only has 1 car/ wants to use it for other things besides driving fast. They don't have the same target market.
