Default is turbo spool and stock intake louder in cold weather?

Hi,

For some reason, I felt like driving with the stereo off tonight and I noticed that I can really hear the turbo spool and air rushing through the intake. It's been pretty cold up here the past few days in the northwest, does that have anything to do with it? I've never heard my turbo and intake this much before. It has me kind of concerned that something is wrong.

I've got the stock intake with a K&N filter and a greddy type-s BOV. The BOV came with the car and I've got it cranked down tight. I haven't loosened it at all and it seems to be making more noise as well.

Should I be worried? Oh, I'm also due for a 60k if that affects anything.

Thanks,
Joel

Dont know for sure but...

The colder the air that you're stuffing into your engine the more you can put in...so when its raining/cool your car will feel faster and you are probably hearing it suck up more air.

Yes,you are getting more volume due to the higher density of the air, plus the sound goes a little faster in cold air so it sounds different. Enjoy the cold goodness, your car will make more power the colder it gets, up to a point, which I cant remember right now.

It may also have to do with the fact that you have your windows closed. Just a simple stupid observation. But yes, cold and hot air will interact with your car's mechanical and electrical parts differently. Nothing to worry about, this is why if there is something wrong with your car, one extreme in temperature will bring it out.

YES! It's been extremely cold AND dry in Seattle the last couple of days. I feel like I have a different motor in my car.

careful with getting a CAI, do your research! some are not good for your bugeye!

if you want to hear the turbo & intake more all the time then hack your airbox or remove your intake silencer- aka: 'the kidney'. You'll hear all kinds of wooshing an whirrring.

Its probably not turbo spool your hearing

You're rotator splint is probably siezed up from the cold weather. If you take it out and spray some lithium grease on it you may fix your problem.

oops, just to clarify...

It's a K&N drop in filter.

I was just joking about the CAI. I don't have any mods to justify it or have the EM to do it either.

So what is a rotator splint and how do I get to it? I haven't ever seen anything posted on the boards for that. Search here I come.

edit: I did a search and only found mention of it, but not what it is or does .
