damn that is crazy, i wouldnt even believe my self if i said my car could do 0-60 in under 4 seconds. and i really do want 400 wheel and i think headers and one more pound of boost will get me close to that. i cant wait to get my pggs, im sending it out to andrewtech this friday . a little break in, well a lot actually, and then im launching the **** out of this car. i have yet to launch it since it was only stage 2. and i was a total noob back then, didnt know what i was doin at all. i went from stock to about 230-240 wheel to 280, then 305 then 375, and soon hopefully aboot 400. thats the way it needs to be done. i always ( and im sure everyone) leave with the biggest grin after putting something new on my car and gettin on it, whether it be 5 hp or 100 hp. going step by step is the way to go.

do you daily drive you car?

I want more power I have a VF39

In my case to get 400 whp I will need PPG and a turbo kit

Or I can get an used EVO IX and meth + basic mods and get 400 whp

Which one do you recommend?

yes i daily drive it , can you really get that much power out of the stock turbo on an evo? but id stick with the rex youve already done quite a few mods to it im sure so keep it goin. id say your pot commited, for those who play poker will understand what i mean. i wouldnt ever change my car for an evo of the same power.

I gotta wonder why anyone needs 400hp for a street car. For drags, ok...you want to get to that 1/4 mile mark faster (or need to break driveline components faster).

I'm a roadcourse guy. A newbie in a 400hp anything is going to be passed by veterens in spec miatas all day long.

I see the same thing going on in the Cobra forums (Shelby Cobra kit builders). They want 500hp. I just shake my head. A very mild 300/325 tq 302 in a 2300 pound car will scare the crap out of about 90% of the people out there. The other 10% are sitting in Porsche turbos wondering what the Sam Hill that thing was that hit 60 a second faster than them. I honestly don't know what I'd do with 500....or 400hp.

whats so crazy about 400 wheel on a street car? it isnt hard to drive at all, the only difference driving wise from your 300 wheel hp comparison is that it will spool later. i went from exactly what your saying to a bit less then 400 and i havent noticed a difference really driving just slightly. and what kinda street car weighs 2300? a 2300 pound car with 300 wheel is going to be just as fast as a 3000+ pound wrx/sti with 400 to the wheels.

Yeah it might be inflated by 50whp but 450whp is still a lot for a stock turbo

400whp would be closer to actual there. 16g's flow in the ~500cfm range.

Remember that the EVO motors are more effecient than ours and that making power in them is as easy cams and some good tuning. I have been told that thier 16gs come in the bigger housing as well ( just rumor).

I do agree with the OP and the topic at hand... MOST people dont know what to do with 400hp and are likely to hurt themself!

That it is

I will say that the reason so many subbies run slow at the strip is the same reason so many of every car runs slow at the strip. Driver.

I have watched stage 2 EVOs running mid 14s all night, and C4 Z06's with bolt ons running mid/upper 14s to high 13s. Both of which should run far faster.

you can kill yourself very easily with 200whp. The public streets are not the place to be pushing your car to the limit regardless of how fast it is. Save it for the track, where you can learn how to drive it properly.

Ok so my target was the magic 400WHP but I am happy with the crazy power of 372WHP/341WTQ and it holds all the way to 7500RPM's at 20psi. Its actually made me alot more respectable just knowing that if I go WOT I could be be in trouble really fast on a city street. Not because I can't drive but because it gets up going so fast that I have noticed my big ass Brembos take much longer to slow me down and I have to downshift and rev match alot more.

Nice thread Defiant I was one of the originals that in the beginning of your thread had issues but I want to say that a DD over 400WHP has no real place to be used on city roads.

Here is the thing, I dont 100% agree that 400+whp means dont use for DD on public roads.

I MOSTLY agree though. For probably 90% of people, even if they CAN handle it safely, its too much.

Here is what I would consider

What is your driving experience with a fast subaru? Have you ever even owned one with the power levels of a 20G? Have you even owned a well tuned "stage 2" STI? If not, you should really start out at stage 2, get it tuned and drive it like that for 5-6 months. More like a year or 2 if not more if you are a relatively new driver (less than 5-7 years experience). Then progress to a 20G setup, drive that for 5-6 months minimum. Get used to the power, make sure you KNOW you need more.

Are you ready to build a motor? Can you afford it?
-If you are not willing to accept the very real possibility of having to spend MINIMUM $3000 replacing the short block or pistons, dont go past stage 2 plus maybe meth.

Are you aware how piss poor the powerband will be in the rpm and throttle position ranges that you do 90% of your daily driving is going to be?

Are you aware how tempermental your car is quite possibly going to be?

I myself am going to have my DD capable of somewhere in the 475whp range on pump+meth without going to huge boost.
BUT
1. I work at home. I would say at least 2-3 days a week the car wont leave the garage. SO calling it a "daily driver" is relative to how often I actually leave the house during the week. And most weekend driving is in my Wife's car.
2. When it does leave the garage, its usually for 20 miles or less. Or to drive to the drag strip/car show/meet.
3. I plan on driving the car at wastegate boost (12.5PSI) 95% of the time.
4. I dont have a whole lot of choice. With the turbo, the fmic, and the headwork+cams, I am only going to be able to hold it back so far. I am thinking that at 12PSI I will be more in the 300-330whp range at high RPM. Under 5000rpm I should be more in the reasonable and safe power levels. Turn the boost up and turn the meth on (it will be set to come on around 14PSI) and look out I dont plan on doing that on the street. Most I would run on the street would be @17PSI. With the meth and headwork/cams, that will still be a TON of power, but again, I plan on 12.5PSI 90% of the time on the street.
And I know I can keep myself to that.

I also wanted to add that on MANY dynos your car would read over 400whp with your setup at that boost level.

Get some brake pads? Just a thought (not sure if you had them already)
