Depends more on how much boost you plan to run. The lower you want to be able to turn the boost the bigger a gate you may need

Whatever you can afford. There's nothing to lose by going too big.

The most you'll be running means nothing to us. We need to know the LEAST you'll be running.

MOST tuners want a EWG bare minimum at 1bar (14.7psi boost). The practice is; the least amount of boost you want, you will need a bigger opening 38mm,40mm, 44mm, 46mm...etc. To be safe, just get a 44mm EWG and a 1bar spring and RUN IT!
Not sure if I explained that right. lol |

^^^Pretty much. I wish I had gotten a 44mm EWG instead of my 38mm.

I've heard some reputable tuners on here say the same thing in person - it's hard to control boost at lower levels (~20PSI) using smaller 38mm wastegates. I plan on running a 3071r on low boost using a 44mm.

No, they don't. Think about it. Why would it? Because it's bigger and has the potential to flow more?
Think about it like this, a fire hydrant can still move as much (or little) water as a garden water spigot. Both can keep it at a slow drip rate. The fire hydrant may be more difficult to set, but it is very possible to do. |

I run a Dom4.0 At 17 pounds with zero issue with my Tial 38 MVR. I haven't had any issues with higher boost around 25 either. I doubt it helps but just laying it out for some info.

You people don't ****ing UNDERSTAND!!! High boost will be EASIER with a SMALLER wastegate. You can run no wastegate and all and get a bajillion pounds of boost! The point of a wastegate is to REDUCE the boost pressure. Just as using a turbo capable of 50psi (running at say 24psi) is better than running a turbo capable of 24psi (running at 24psi). The more headroom you have, the better.

Smaller gate, higher boost, bigger gate, lower boost.
That's always been my understanding |

From my limited experience, no subaru ever needs more than a 38mm. You get finer resolution/control with a smaller gate too.
