Default STi Service Manuals Now Available for Download or Purchase

I noticed today that you can now download the US STi factory service manuals from Subaru's TechInfo site. Here's a link to the page with the STi service manuals:

You have to buy a "subscription" in order to download. The cheapest subscription is $19.95 for 72 hours of access, during which time you can download as much as you please.

First you register, then you buy a subscription. See:

Are you sure you can download everything for $19.95 within 72 hours.

As if you look at the individual pricies of the manuals they range from 12 - nearly 100 dollars. And why would you have an option for 365 days for $2600 if you can download everything in 72 hours....?.

As to whether you can download everything within 72 hours, it depends on your bandwidth. High-bandwith subscribers have been able to download the complete documentation for a 2003 WRX in about 3 hours. The individual prices for the manuals are for the version that's printed on paper, bound in book form, and mailed to you. If you're a repair shop that specializes in Subarus, having continuous access to the most up-to-date service materials, for browsing as needed without the necessity of downloading and organizing everything on a local computer might be worth $2600.

Not very often. So far, for example, there have been three "Service Manual Corrections" packages issued for the 2002 WRX manuals.

I just rang them, with the 72 hour option you can doownload as much as you want within that time limit. Seems strange I wonder how long it takes and if you can get them all within that time frame. $20 seems cheap, might try it out anyone want other manuals for other model cars...?. Got 3 days to complete.

Here's a thread in which some satisfied folks who actually bought a 72-hour subscription describe their experiences:

The publications at the TechInfo.subaru.com site are only for U.S. market Subarus.

I have to pay for this? I already dropped a grand down on a deposit and will be dropping another $30,000 when the car shows...now I have to pay for the manual on line?

Sorry, I should'nt complain... there's been enough of that on these threads the last couple of months.

Service Manual...The fact that you can get it online for $20 per incident is very good. The cost of the manuals for any car is very prohibitive for most people to buy them.

Just a couple of additional notes on STi service manuals.

If you choose to buy the manuals in book form (instead of electronic form), then you should copy down the part numbers (MSAxxxxxxx) and order them from a Subaru dealer. The prices offered at techinfo.subaru.com are about 15 percent above "list" price.

Also, you should download the manuals for the entire Impreza line (I updated the link in my first post in this thread to point at that longer list of manuals), not just the STi. In previous Impreza service manuals, the information for WRX Cooling, Lubrication, Speed Control Systems, and Starting/Charging Systems was supplied only in the "Engine (SOHC)" manual. And the 2003 version of the Engine (DOHC) for the WRX actually has table of contents entries for all these sub-sections, but when you turn to the indicated page for one of them, the page simply says to go the sub-section in the SOHC engine manual. It would be very "disappointing" to download just the STi manuals in only a few hours and then find out 3 days later (after your subscription has expired) that you didn't get everything.

And, finally, if you search for STi TSBs, you'll actually get two "hits." One informs techs about the online availability of downloadable service manuals (which they can access for free via their subarunet.com connection). And the other one is a revised Clutch Judder TSB.

Holy crap, the entire set of service manuals for 19 bucks?!

This really seems like too good of a deal to be true, but I'm definitely interested,

It's a good deal. But their server is slow and of course it went to lunch about 20 minutes after I signed up. Hopefully it'll come back up soon since my 72 hours is ticking.
