When your turbo oil return leaks like a sieve and there's nothing you can do about it.

Do you drive flat out all the time? Hell, I'm getting 320 miles per tank and I don't drive like an old lady.

Gotta be the tune? I have an '05 WRX with a stage 2 Cobb OTS tune and I get at least 320 miles every time. I'm middle of the road as far as driving habits. Don't hoon all the time but I definitely use my turbo. Lol.

I also get about 320 per tank, just turned over to 15K miles ~ 26.7 mpg long term average.

When you are stopped by kids in the gas station and they ask "is this a race car, mister? I see that hole on your hood"

My baby sitter's kids would say "wow! He's got a race car!" the first few times I dropped my kid off.
It was pretty funny.

It's all about "the tune." When my 2006 was new, it routinely got 24 mpg around town, and up to 29mpg on the highway.

My new "tune" includes over double the horsepower it came with, a close-ratio jdm 6-speed, and using a bit more gas when the pedal's to the metal. I average 19mpg now, but I can stretch it out to 22 on the highway.

Also it doesn't help that E-10 became mandatory in 2009 and I lost an immediate 2mpg forever.

You get annoyed when another car blocks the view of your WRX from the office window.

You watch the road more closely than ever before, hoping you see the body styling of previous generations of the car you now proudly own; willing to raise your hand in a silent brotherhood of combustion.

That... May be atypical.

In four subarus and (180+190+100+40)x1000 miles, we have only had one rebuild and it was going to happen regardless (on the one with 40k miles ;-) )

I'm sorry for your troubles.
