i've read a lot about how theres 2 cats in the header.... has anyone ever tried gutting them? or is it just easier to custom fit borlas or whatever?

all i know is that on my 06' i didnt have any cats in the header. there is a seperate cat pipe connected to your header. i have a sedan but i really dout that they would make them completely different. i have a borla header w/ 2.25in header back pipes with a stromung type xa axle back.

i think he has the 05-previous borlas and an 05-previous style cat pipe which makes it fit the rest of your exhaust on your 06 (and 07's) at least that what just about anyone with an 06-07 has to do to get any headers since no one makes any to fit the OEM 06-07 flange locations yet.

so it needs no retrofitting then, just the 05 headers and the 05 cat pipe, and bolt them to the rest of my existing oem exhaust? sorry to ask the question again, this is just the first strait answer i have gotten on this subject.

Theres a cat in the header, which makes its official name "exhaust manifold"
Theres another one in the cat pipe, right after the exhaust manifold. If you do a pre-05 retrofit with borlas, you will only have one in your cat pipe, unless you get a track pipe. |

I want to say there is a cat on the 06-07 "header" with two O2 sensors One immediately before and after the cat. I dont think the second cat located next to the transmission has any O2 sensors associated with it. If that is indeed a cat at all. it looks like one. In my car i see in front of the engine located on the passenger side, the "header" has two O2 sensors before and after what looks like a cat. I dont see any other O2 sensors anywhere else. So if you get a borla it looks like you will need to get O2 sensor extenders to get to the cat section you will need from an 05 type cat which will be located near where your rear cat like thing is right now (next to the tranny). As for your question, i dont know how you could "gut" your cat without cutting your OEM "header" to get inside the cat with some type of cutting tool. Just get the borlas already.
