Default Rear Diff Temp Sensor...

Does anybody ever have a problem with their sensor flickering? My 04 STi has been doing this for a little while.. I am thinking it is wiring, as sometimes it will come on, sometimes it will flicker... it is totally random, and sometimes it is within a minute or two sometimes its not for awhile.

I thought I remembered seeing somethign about somebody saying a loose ground wire somewhere, but I dont recall... Anybody have any more info?

And i KNOW my diff has fluid in it, & it has ZERO signs of leaks/weaps/drips.

My wife's STi just started doing this last night. She picked up a screw in the pass tire, so it was low on air. I thought that was causing it, but even after it was repaired the light is still flickering.

My first guess is something electrical, it just happened to coincide with the low tire pressure on one side. Looks like I know what I will be working on this weekend.

Check the terminals on the sensor and connector, sometimes they get a little corrosion on them. Also check the ground terminal for corrsion.

Hope that helps

The ground terminal directly above the sensor was rusted pretty badly. I would have liked to take that off and clean it, but there is no way of getting that bolt off without dropping the diff, so I just cleaned it with a small wire brush and sandpaper then cleaned the wire as best I could. So far so good, but I am not impressed with that ground location so I am sure I will be either relocating or coming up with a better connection in the future. Probably next spring after another round of salt and snow....

I wouldn't cut it, but you can move it as long as it's to a clean ground.

Spent $93 on a new sensor and it did nothing to rid this problem. I got fed up and cut the ground wire off to find it was a corroded spade lug- I had no idea it was supposed to disconnect. I wire brushed the terminal and crimped on a new spade plug. the stupid light is GONE!!!! sweet:tup:

Diagnostic hint: resistance between ground terminal and sensor case should be < 1 ohm anything more there's too much crap under there, clean it up!

Had the same problem with the flickering warning light. I crawled under there and noticed how rusty the ground was. I gave it a tug and it was so corroded that the metal from the ground mount broke off in the connector. Has anybody relocated the ground? I'd replace the stock ground mount, but the bolt placement is beyond impossible to get to. Where and how would you guys relocate the new ground? Supplies needed? much thanks!
