All the europeon cars I want to drive seem to be "not for us". Audi S1 comes to mind.

I agree, but man if they offered that here, it was affordable enough, and I wasn't as dubious of MB reliability and maintenance cost as i am (a lot of ifs lol).... I would rock that. 3300lb and 350hp sounds delicious.

There's another report saying that the engine is anticipated to make 370 hp and 300 lb-ft. Regardless, it's impressive, especially for them to have eclipsed other companies that have been making 2.0Ts for years, especially since their engines (whether AMG-tuned or not) generally don't have 100+ hp/liter.

That is nice, but is not available and would still be overpriced if it was....

Car would be worth 20% of original value after 4 years. AMG cars for you.

I have a hard time believing that they could get that much hp out of 2.0L without resorting to some unusual means, and certainly not in the usa with 91 octane and our emissions. It will be interesting to see what happens with this and see how long they last on the street...or dont last, more like I think |

You can't rule it out though. Mitsubishi/Ralliart exceeded that with the FQ-400 (405 hp), though I'm not sure if those count since I think they're sold as aftermarket kits, though they're still legit models. At the same time, AMG has been toying with turbochargers for quite some time at this point, like in the 65 series V-12s, the current 63 series V-8s (while also having been rumored to have been testing a twin-turbo version of the previous 63 series V-8) and also the more recent V-12 powering the current Pagani Huarya.

I'm aware of that, but I was focusing on AMG-tuned, turbocharged engines, which are obviously going to have much more impressive efficiency (meaning hp/liter) for the sake of performance... not saying that the non-AMG ones don't have performance. But the AMG ones take it to the next step.

If this is a Euro only, then maybe it may make it to our country
2.0L turbo putting 350 hp sounds like significant turbo lag.....from an OEM perspective that is (remember OEM's have to cater for the odd grocery mom who might buy one and end up being shocked when the power band goes from lag to boost). They may end up using a 2.5L or one of their slightly bigger engines IMHO. |

^Agreed...my thinking may not follow exactly with how it's gonna go. But my angle is that there's always the "market" limiting factor.
Not everyone who buys the A45 AMG will be a hardcore performance enthusiast, or would appreciate a jumpy powerband. It will have to be a smooth powerband, and be able to do city and track duty alike. It isn't an AMG black series...so the lunacy may not really be there in full swing (as yet) Of course, AMG could use Variable Turbine-whatever-it's-called technology (like in the 997 Turbo) to minimise lag, but ultimately you're still limited by small displacement at some point. So that said, I still think either the hp is gonna go down, or the engine size is gonna go up. IMHO, euros *normally* use turbos for power (torque) band "bolstering", rather than massive power increases like the JDM's do (not sure if this statement makes any sense). |

However, the biggie will be to make sure the engine holds together with "accidental" (but somehow repetitive...) fill ups with our wonderful 87 AKI gas . |

yeah....there is that, too and making the kind of power that MB wants out of just 2 litres with useful power delivery and putting it in a car that will weigh what the A45 WILL weigh??? with a warranty??? |

But no one knows what the absolute maximum efficiency of a 2 liter engine can be made. More R&D, advancement in technology, and material. We are seeing some 2 liters with power, torque curve, response...etc. not possible few years ago. Look at what direct injection helped for N/A and FI. There are many very clever people in this world. |
