wow. H9 is definitely a reccomended mod for those running stock bulbs. A lot more light, even with my regular sylvania's I bought from autozone. Can't wait to throw in the 35w yellow fogs.

Yup, I agree that the H9 mod is definitely well worth it. I was also going to get yellow H11s for my fogs, but ended up going with yellow overlays. Not real impressed with the color of the light coming through the overlays so I may try yellow bulbs instead.

I just posted in the outback fog light upgrade thread. It *appears* that you can upgrade to the metal 55w outback fogs for around $100 + shipping. I may not even bother trying to get 35w bulbs for the stock fogs, and I may just upgrade instead to the outback setup.

Are anyone else's brakes ****ing loud when they're very cold? First couple of stops after a night near freezing it sounds like I have no brake pads left.

Have you checked to confirm that your brake pads aren't worn out?

A lot of the time the sound is normal just rubbing off residue/moisture from the rotors...but yes, wouldn't hurt to get the pads checked out. I would be more concerned if it sounded like that all the time - in the am leads me to believe its normal

Supposedly at the last service they were fine. If they wore out in 17,000 miles I'd be concerned. That's Bentley brake wear.

I would agree, as long as you aren't an aggressive driver.

Here's something you can eyeball in about 10 seconds: Check your brake fluid level. If it has dropped far below the MAX line, then your pads and/or rotors are worn. If the level is close to MAX, then your pads/rotors are fine.

NOTE: This assumes you (or anybody else) have not "topped off" your brake fluid level, which should generally be avoided between brake services.

I've looked at the brake fluid (and other crap) about weekly since I've got the car. As far as I know it looks about the same.

That link may work. If not, just Google search "Crosstrek skid plate".

This skid plate would be a nice feature, especially if I'm going to lower this puppy a little bit up front (not much, just a bit). It's almost unacceptably lazy though for this product to not have a place for the oil drain.

Yeah, the skid plate I mounted on my VW TDI also did not have an access hole for the oil drain plug. I was about to buy an oil extractor so that I could do oil changes on that car topside (which is how VW dealerships do oil changes), but then the car crapped out on me, so I replaced it with the Impreza.

A good metal hole saw really aught to solve the problem anyways.... although it will expose your oil pan a bit...

Well, I have been running a 22mm rear sway bar for a couple months now with stock end links and have had no problems. However, I guess I felt the need to buy my car a present so I just ordered some Kartboy end links lol.

Between that and the steering wheel, I think the exorbitant cost is worth the every day feel of using them.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a roof rack setup? Been seeing a lot of nice Thule and Yakima ones on other cars on the road. But Subaru also has nice ones too..

I have never looked into racks before, so I have no idea where to even start. Some type of multi-purpose rack would be fine, but bars, not a "basket". Preferably black to match the existing Sport side rails. Attachments used would be POSSIBLY bike and snowboards.

If anyone could shine any light on this, that'd be helpful. Do I need to get the Subaru aero-bars and add from there, or are there any options to simply add a whole assembly and eliminate the need for the Subaru cross bars?

Thanks!

I use the Malone cross bar setup with lockable clamps, and a Thule fairing. I did add the Malone kayak setup as well. I love it. Great for the kayak, hauling tubing and even a little giant ladder sometimes.

I have the Yakima with the round bars. Its probably the cheapest/most versatile. But its really noisy. A fairing will get rid of the "wump wump wump," but there is still a ton of wind noise. Also, I take about a 3 mpg hit when its on. Between those two things, its not something I leave on the car when I'm not using it. But it only takes a few minutes to attach.

I would be interested in hearing how well the aero cross bars do against wind noise and mpg.

I believe the current Outback has built in cross bars that fold out from the rails. That would be pretty awesome.
