Two totaled Suabrus
I live in Long Beach, NY, one of the barrier islands that just got crushed by Sandy. My wife and I are very fortunate to have the house we bought about a month ago spared by any major damage from the storm. I'll take a new furnace and some minor flood damage over what I see around the rest of my town. But our cars didn't fair as well, my 2011 WRX and my wife's 2009 OBS are probably totaled from salt water damage. They are both covered, so have to get some new cars and get moving back to work and all that. I am hoping to get a 2013 WRX but for the wife I'm looking at the impreza sport and the crosstrek, anyone have opinions on the two. Hoping to go for a test drive tomorrow.
Any helpful opinions would be appreciated. Thanks Dan

I cant even find the correct words to convey what I really think about this post. 100 people dead, hundreds of thousands displaced, millions affected, and your worried about what kind of car to test drive.

Wow that sucks man but that's nice your house was mostly spared.
I think the sport/crosstrek are pretty similar. From what I remember the crosstrek is essentially an impreza with a 3" lift and wheels that are either hit or miss depending on whom you ask. I would just test drive both. |

Jesus Christ. I can't even find the right words to convey what I really think about this post. 100 people dead, hundreds of thousands displaced, millions affected, and you're on Nasioc worried about people who have to buy new cars. I can't believe you're not out in the streets of New Jersey helping people!

Seriously? Do you know them? Who are you to judge what kind of questions they're asking? Yes, Sandy was an enormous catastrophe, but people need ways to get to work, and with the subway systems out of commission for a long time, they're going to need to find a way to get to work, and get back on their feet. He never said they DIDN'T experience any damage, just that they weren't AS affected by the storm as others were. That doesn't give you the right to judge them simply for wanting to get back to work.

And so what makes you think that BucketRX isn't helping? People have to do what they have to do for themselves to keep their lives moving. It's natural, like masturbation.

Thanks for all the replies guys. As I a said, I was pretty lucky with my house, but the town won't be live able for at least a month. We have no running water, or electricity. I went up to Boston to stay with a friend for a night or two and then heading back down to help friends empty their now flooded homes and all that. I was hoping it would be easier to find gas cans for generators and supplies up here, but still not having much lucky, everything is sold out, so just picking up what I can. I picking up a rental car in Hartford, ct tomorrow because that was the closest place I could find that still had them left. Then it's back down for what will be weeks of cleaning things up, and then the rebuilding. I know it seems unimportant to worry about a car, but we do need to get back to work and if I'm spending the money in a short period of time, I'd like to have some extra input.
As I said before, thanks for any help. |

I wish you, and everyone else a quick recovery. Being from South Louisiana, I feel your pain. I hope you and your wife get your new Subies quickly.

Sorry to hear about the vehicle losses and thankful you are okay!
I had my wife drive both and she fell in love with the crosstrek. She loved being higher up than in the sport. She was all about wanting a CR-V until she drove that too! I plan on getting her one after the holidays. Just have her drive both. Hoping for a quick recovery up there! And to the dude who made the second post....really? Who are you to judge? This is a Subaru website. Yes, there are some pressing issues in that area but obviously he has a question about transportation for work which is a way for him to make a living, and to me that's a critical issue in itself. It's sad that people lost their lives and that most of the area has suffered devastating damages and losses. Life goes on though and people in that area are tough, motivated, and resilient and will make it better than it was before. |

I just left LI before this happened. All of my family went through the storm and were luckily unharmed. While nothing is more important than the people affected by the storm, THIS IS A CAR FORUM. Quit riding this guy's nuts, for real.

I haven't seen the Crosstrek yet in person, but I'm very intrigued by it. Would definitely check it out. If it was up against a Mazda CX-5, though, the Mazda may get the nod for the MPG. Good luck. Tough choice.

Bucketrx was in long beach yesterday took a pick of an outback sp next to a crv was on Franklin ave dunno if that was yours and then a white wrx. In terms of impreza or crosstrek if she is looking for mtl those are harder to find if she is looking for cvt there are a few out there upstate ny and Pennsylvania would be your best bet not a lot of them in nj. Order time is 4 months so consider that a last ditch effort. For gas getting it upstate ny is best closer to Albany the better if you give me some specs of wht crosstrek or impreza you want I can scan ny nj and pa and post the results
