Air/Oil separator
Hi all I'm currently running stage 2 set up on my 2011 wrx. Current power mods are
Turbo back turboxs exhaust And Cobb sf intake I am currently in the process of deciding what mods I want to add before protune. As of right now I want a Dw65 265lph fuel pump Pw TMIC Grimmspeed ebcs Now my question . . . Is an air/oil seperator worth getting. Also I anybody recommends another mod or replacing one of these mods with something else let me know. Thanks

i was getting blow by issues. my perrin tmic was geting alot of oil inside and making the lower tmic hose loose. it wasnt enough oil to need a top off between changes. its just not good to have too much oil in there cause it can lower the octane and cause detontation.

Well thanks for the info guys looks like I will as it to my list. Any other mods I should possibly add? I don't think injectors are necessary until turbo upgrade am I right?

I've been debating on getting an air/oil separator myself. From what I've read the Crawford is the way to go but so far I haven't had any problems without one. I do drive the car pretty conservative.
Mods.. Invidia tbe, AEM intake, Forge bpv, Grimmspeed ebcs, Process West tmic, protune. |

It's all in what you want and your future plans. A fuel pump and injectors wouldn't be a bad idea but not "needed" if you never plan on running an E85 tune or upgrading the turbo. My IDC was at 95% with stock injectors on pump gas so it's pushing the limits. You could always do an EWG before the tune also.

AOS's are fairly useless.

Proof is the MILLIONS of cars that have blow by (hint all of them in the past 40+ years) that not once needed an AOS or catch can. Blow by still happens. Blow by is not a horrible thing. Where is the evidence showing an AOS/Catch can has extended the life of a motor? I trust car engineers, if it was needed there would be one.

Hinshaw, there is one built into your engine...it just isn't a very good one when you add power and mods. It's like saying you trust the engineers did a good job on the pistons and therefore will never have to worry about them.

I've always been against AOS's. And as much as most people like to say it, my opinions have stayed the same since becoming a MOD, and being one has nothing to do with them. Simple fact is, one can be MADE for cheaper then bought, and the money can be used for better needs. |

And as far as the aos goes i dont know what to do about it know. Im starting to think ill do that down the road. I had just read somewhere that it was a good safe mod when running 91 oct. Thats all i can get here in nevada it sucks. and no e85 here. My friends evo is now running on meth at 430whp its insane. The meth made a huge difference besides having to refill it all that time haha. Once again thanks for the replies guys much appreciated. I may just call a well known tuner i may go to. . . if i can find one in slc or reno and ask what he thinks. |

It was a nice gain in power. Not a lot on top end but huge gains in the midrange. The car is smooth and very fun to drive now. Every car and dyno is a bit different but I ended up with 315whp/342wtq @ 20.5psi on 93 octane. I can PM you the graph if you want to check it out.
