are subaru lug nuts like tuner lug nuts?
... i have 17" aftermarket rims, and was wondering if subaru's lug nuts will fit. They say they have the regular ones, .... whatever that means....
Normal WRX lug nuts from the dealership might not fit my rims, but dont the BBS Rims require tuner lugs which are a lot thinner then REGULAR lugs and therefore would fit my aftermarket rims?

BBS takes the same standard lug nut the other subaru alloy rims do. At least 2002-07, I can't speak for 08 models.

BBS takes the same lugs, I got 04 STI BBS on my WRX w/ the same nuts. Usually you wouldnt need tuner nuts unless stock ones are too short.

Why don't you just take a lug nut off and see if it fits

That's right;the seat design is called "cone". But some wheels use a seat design called "radius"/"spherical"/"ball" which is easy to mistake for "cone". The two can not be mixed. Make sure that those aftermarket rims have cone seats before using your Suby lug nuts.

most aftermarket rims require "tuner" lugs, that have a more tapered seat. The stock subaru lugs will not work.

You can still use the stock subaru lugs. You will need a thin wall socket and if you torque them properly there shouldn't be a problem. In most cases they will fit.

Last year I bought wheels from Fikse. Fikse doesn't supply lug nuts for Subarus,so I sent them a stock Subaru nut,a Subaru/McGard locknut, and a McGard spline-drive nut for Subaru. Fikse examined them and told me that all three have the same cone seats and would work fine with my new wheels.

I have ROTAs and OEM lugs don't work, they'll eat the s*** out of your wheel if you try to put them on all the way.

Subaru OEM uses conical seats, which is the same as "tuner" lugs. Other manufacturers, like Honda, use rounded seats, which are not compatible. But Subaru, uses conical. |

Depending on the Rotas perhaps, my Tarmac 2's had no issues. You have to use a thin wall socket and be gentle so you don't start scraping the sides. Other then that no problems. |

I was thinking about STI Pink lugs for my black wheels. Does anyone know of a manufacture that makes them (or alternatively, what I can use to paint them that won't peel off)?

I just bought a gorgeous set of silver bbs for my 07 WRX. Nowtheir both cone seats, but its almost like the cone is not long enough. Its too close to call, but i looks like the head of the lug (name i just made up for the part where it transitions from the cone to the socket shape) is almost in the wheel. it seems like the cone portion should be fitted a little longer. But if everyone else is using their stock lugs with bbs' i'm not too worried. did lugs change in 06/07's?

As long as i use a thin walled socket, How thin? will a generic Mastercraft 19mm socket work? Last edited by Wrgb; 04-04-2009 at 03:31 AM. |

Some aftermarket wheels have deeper lugnut pockets than the OEM wheels. If you put a stock acorn lugnut into that deeper pocket, the pointed corners of the hex section of the lugnut will hit the wheel and start to damage the wheel as you torque the lugnuts. It's hard to get a good picture of it, but in that pic you can see how the hex section of the acorn lugnut is resting on the face of the wheel, whereas the larger cone section of the Rays lugnut has good cone-to-pocket contact. So, it's perfectly acceptable to use aftermarket 60deg taper lugnuts on Subaru OEM wheels, but using Subaru OEM lugnuts on aftermarket wheels might not work out for you.
