Looks like SVXdc already found the answer with the Foresters, found while googling it.

You just need to temporarily disconnect power, to reset your MFD (to make it forget it had ever seen your factory HU). You can do that by any of these methods:
Unplug the power harness from the MFD
Disconnect the fuse for that harness, #15 (I think that's on the fuse block inside the cabin, but don't yet have the full service manual. Can someone else confirm?)
Disconnect the negative terminal from your car's battery
If you don't want to open up the MFD (which really isn't that hard), I'd go with method "B", so you don't reset everything else in the car (such as your ECU).
Makes sense, because I had my battery disconnected while I installed everything.

Well, all I have is time before my WRX gets here so I decided to start collecting mods and/or parts needed for the mods along with installation details. Rims and tires are pretty straight forward while the TPMS is something I still have to research, part number, best price, etc.

After reading the great post by BuckiWRX and ae64.com's parts needed web page...

http://ae64.com/aftermarket-HU-insta...Impreza-BT.htm

As far as this thread is concerned, and forgive my many questions but I have NEVER installed a aftermarket radio myself of this complexity...at least superficially, with steering wheel controls, integration with existing OEM inputs, etc etc

My goal is to NOT cut ANY wires...is that possible?

How does my list look, am I missing anything? Please continue reading my list so you can point out things I might be missing.

1) HU PIONEER AVH-4000NEX
What's in the box:

2) Mounting Bracket for aftermarket HU & OEM plug
When I had my 2011 WRX I ordered this years ago and at this point I don't have all the details but does this look like the 20 pin connector I will need?

UPDATE: Based on the picture I will need a new plug because mine is missing the SWC wires, BuckiWRX mentioned in his post:
http://ae64.com/20-pinfwdharness.htm

3) Metra ASWC-1 steering wheel
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181363549622...84.m1497.l2649

4) Parking break bypass
When I take trips I want the ability to stream TV/DVD for my boys
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251511635963...84.m1497.l2649

5) iPhone Pioneer adapter CD-IH202 & Apple Lightning to AV adapter
I can't believe they nickel and dime you with this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321379590324...84.m1497.l2649

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111305217355...84.m1497.l2649

6) Axxess AX-TOYUSB
To retain the center storage USB.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321350474955...84.m1497.l2649

7) Tools? Remember I'm a newb...

I think that's it, please share your thoughts.

EDIT: Disregard, found it on his website.

Definately possible to not cut any wires, I did not cut any with my install. You will need a different mounting bracket Metra 99-8905B or Scosche 2029B for the dash. You may need to trim to fit slightly. Your 20 pin connector from you 2011 will work. If you don't have the extra wires added for steering wheel controls you will have to add them, splice into the harness, or buy one from SVXdc.

Get yourself a set of plastic trim panel tools, the panels in this car are tighter than in the past and you don't want to scratch them up. They will pay for themselves whether you go cheap or expensive. Beyond that, tool wise depends on your comfort level, soldering iron or crimp tools as both has their ups and downs. I would suggest crimping if you are a newbie to electronics, just remember to get the right size butt splices for the gauge wire and tug on the wires slightly to make sure it's a good crimp.

Google avic411 and go to the NEX subforum. They have a very easy mod for the parking brake bypass without using any ebay stuff. I have an NEX receiver and it worked flawlessly. Good luck with the install!

Highly suggest you rethink the way you plan to connect you phone. Not sure on the specs with the Note2, but if its anything like the S3/S4 you will need a 11pin MHL adapter. From there it just gets annoying as most the MHL adapters suck or just simply don't work at all. On top of that when connected to a MHL device most androids have their GPS signal drop out.

I suggest checking into a miracast device to connect wireless. I used a genuine Samsung Allshare cast hub, powered by the head unit's USB. Still able to use second USB port for the wired USB port in the car. This route also allows me to charge my phone (doesn't work with most MHL adapters), have full GPS reception all without having to fumble with any extra wires. My hub is tucked inside the dash, so unless you know about it, you can't even tell.

I was reading up on connection types...from best to worst...

1) soldering
2) Scotchlok connector
3) crimp connections
4) wire twist/electrical tape

As a newbie I leaning to the Scotchlok connector type, thoughts?

I would look at Posi-lock range before the Scotchlok's...Posi-taps are much better than Scotchlok's from my experience.

I would crimp before I ever did the scotchlock but I soldered mine and I had never soldered anything it's really easy once you get the hang of it just practice a few runs on some speaker wire you don't want

The HDMI to mobile HDMI is the MHL adapter. This adapter has a HDMI input that will go from the MHL adapter to the back of the HU, the USB out for power will come from the HU with a USB to Micro Adapter. From there it is powered USB micro.

I'll have to do some testing on the GPS signal dropping out. If this happens I can use GPS injection and pull the GPS signal from the HU into my phone.

Thanks guys! For error correction I think posi-lock makes the most sense. I'm in research faze so thanks for all the input.

Now, what wire gauge posi-lock should I get? I'm thinking 14-16 is what I will need to match what's on the car and the wiring harness.

Btw, I have not heard back from the ae64 guy...should I be worried?

Just a FYI before you start your purchases. Note 2 does in fact require the Samsung adapter. The standard MHL converter won't work.

I think stock gauge wire is 18? wouldn't quote me on that though...

AE64 (David) said he's got a long backlog of emails he has to reply to...I've been in touch with him recently and it took about a week to hear back - I wouldn't expect instant replies.

Awesome install pics, the HU's look great. I have a 2015 STI Limited (w/ HK audio) and looking to replace the HU later this summer. For those that have the HK speakers, how big of an improvement is there in terms of sound quality compared to the factory (piece of crap) HU?

Got an e-mail from AE64 earlier today, he is alive just busy

he is out of AUX jacks to the center console, unknown when he will get more, in the mean time find an alternate AUX jack method. I'll probably just run one to the passenger floorboard for guests in the car, I'll be using my HDMI/USB setup.

picked my car up yesterday, as soon as I get my parts ordered/delivered from AE64 and everything else arrives I'll start my install and update
