What exactly is happening? Like stuttering as it goes into boost?

Fill out your profile first off.
Secondly, read UNABOMBERS MANIFESTO, it's a handy sticky located at the top of the Newbies and FAQS section.
Thirdly, how much power it can handle comes with far too many variables to answer. Your goal is 300 whp for 1000-15000 bucks, easily done. Research 4 times and buy just once.
And finally, if you live so close to a performance shop for Subaru's, why not give them a call and tell them your goals? They will give you the exact way to do it, and for a bonus you can ask about your problem and get a good answer.

I've got a 2009 too. My plans are dp, upgraded tmic, injectors, pump, tune. so far I've done an AP tune and am up 33hp from stock. the dp should get close to 300hp.

Injectors and pump for reliability. 268whp is at 88% IDC for me, so 300whp would put them very close to max. Possible to get 300whp with stock fueling, but not reliable.

the tmic serves two purposes 1 its stronger than the stock plastic that can hold anywhere from 18-22 before breaking depending on who u ask and 2 it can help compensate for running the turbo in a lower efficiency band in the higher rpms.

I wouldn't expected a modded car to be very reliable. just keep some money in the bank and order performance parts when the stock parts break.

Any car can "handle" any power with the right mods

That being said, torque becomes an issue with wrxs before power does

This is some of the best advice in this whole thread (and you gave it to your self). Tim Bailey knows what he is talking about.

With what kind of reliability? I am so tired of seeing these posts about an intake and downpipe hitting 300 AWHP, because it is not the entire story. Read the posts on these forums from unibomber.. Supporting mods are your friend... Do the research on the forums before you do anything. It will really save yourself some time and frustration..

Could be a lot of things...

Accidentally filled with 87 octane?
Spark plugs getting fouled
Piston ringlands are shot (That's what mine started with)

Those are just 3 I thought of off the top of my head, there could be others. Regardless, if you haven't put 87 octane in, I'd have a compression test done and you may as well replace spark plugs while you're there.

In my opinion, the typical 'stage 2' setup of a downpipe, catback, and tune is best for the money. 25% power increase for roughly $2000 total. That's not bad at all. And that's with name brand parts. Throw in the Cobb SF intake if you like too... assuming you're going with the Cobb AP.

That's approximately 330HP crank give or take. You're up to around 265 to the wheels. (In general, stage 2 upgrades take your stock crank HP and make it your new wheel HP... with different tunes, results will vary.)

You must not be too familiar with the newer WRX's. He should be around 300whp with a downpipe, intake, and tune.

Smh 300whp out of a wrx with exhaust & tune? I wanna just take a guess & say the wrx barely makes 200whp from the factory if that due to the awd drivetrain loses bc the sti only puts down around 230whp stock! advertised hp is not at the wheels by any means. Just figured I'd try to help ya out(:

Well seeing as the VF52 is almost exactly the same size as the STi turbo, it is almost completely in the tune.

From the dynos i've seen 09+ puts down between 220 and 230 stock depending on the dyno.... i hope the sti puts down more than that...

09+ WRX's and STi's make almost the same power with the same mods. The tranny probably makes the biggest difference.

I think you're confusing Sti numbers with WRX numbers...

So you are saying that the STI has a drive-train loss of around 80+hp? or almost a 3rd.

Uncorrected low-reading dynos of STis can be in the 200-215whp range, so yeah.
