Broken torsion bar trunk bracket 02 wrx
Can't seem to find threads with anyone that has had this problem.
I've got a bugeye with an 04 STi trunk swap using the STi torsion springs. Everything seemed to be fine for 5years or so, then I noticed it took more effort to open my trunk. I noticed the drivers side torsion bar bracket ripping from the back of the trunk wall, eventually it ripped out of the spot welds completely. The passenger side appears to have been stressed too at the spot welds and is pulling away from the trunk wall. The metal is pretty thin where the factory spot welds are done. Is it more reinforced in this area for 04-07 STi? Before the shop attempts to hammer the mounting area flat again and rewelding the bracket back on, looking for other options solutions that will keep the area sturdy.

Realistically, if they reweld it and it lasts 5 years, does it matter?

So looking for any other solution alternatives , welding will be a last resort. Since you have an 05 STi, can you confirm how thick the metal is by your torsion bar bracket? Curious if its more reinforced since it was equipped with the heavy ass wing stock. |

I can send some pictures later if I remember.
Given, my cars been wingless for like 20 of its 40k life, regardless, we will see what happens. Honestly i can't imagine subaru designed it different for the stis, however from the bugeyes to the blob eyes they may have |

Theres really no concern of the gas tank unless they set the interior on fire.
