The ones who installed aftermarket HID kits, do you have any issues with "flickering" when you first turn on and while its on?

If so, did you buy a harness relay to fix the issue?

Do you mean retrofitting HID projectors or just HIDs into the halogen reflectors? I have retrofit projectors and I get no "flickering" at all.

I had flickering issues with the two Xentec kits. They are really bad. I went with an AC Ballast with external igniters and they are rock solid. No flickering at all...

You should check out the retrofit source.

Are all Jetta now built in meh-he-co? I though the turbo versions were still built in Germany

I'm pretty sure that all Jettas, including the Jetta Sportwagen, are built in Mexico regardless of which engine they contain (including the TDI).

Nope. The engine/transmission (at least for the TDI) is made in Germany. But the car is assembled in Mexico.

Where did you buy this HID Kit from?

You have a website link you can provide?

What are External Igniters?

Agreed. But in terms of the VW high pressure fuel pump (HPFP), that issue has nothing to do with which country built the car. Germany or Mexico, they're both affected by this issue.

Interestingly, the HPFP is one problem that my Golf TDI didn't have in the 30k miles I owned it (it did have several other issues, most minor, one moderate, and one critical). Had I kept that POS car, the HPFP issue would still be hanging over my head.

For sure, Mexico didn't implode my car, it was the Bosch pump. Two seperate points/issues rolled into a nice VW burrito post.

I bet that thing is having major issues by now! Maybe I should carfax the vin and find out. The only thing keeping this on topic is that it's how we both ended up driving subies.

I got them off of ebay. External igniters are in-line with the wire going from the ballast to the bulb. Not sure of the pros or cons however the Xentec kits I had had them built in to the ballast.

Are these the ones you bought that didn't have any flickering issues?

Are these Xentec?

No they aren't xentec. And they don't flicker at all! These are good.

I think 6000k HIDs are the best compromise between looks and light output, any higher your car will look rice and if lower the output is slightly yellow.

Anything lower than 4300k will be yellow.

From what I've seen:

4300k=OEM white
5000k=pure white
6000k=pure white/ hint of blue blue

Best option would be 4300k, which has the maximum light visibility output available for HIDs. But if your looking for the bestlight output and looks, go with 5000k. Anything higher than that, then its more for the color and you start to sacrifice some visibility.

Higher color temperatures=less visible lumens

But the light output when going from stock halogens to HIDs is really noticeable, whether you choose any of the 3 above. I agree though, anything above 6k looks cheap and tacky.

Not hard to install. You remove the halogen bulb and plug the connector into the input of the ballast. Then install the HID bulb (which has the same socket as the H11 bulb) and plug it in to the ballast. Then zip tie the ballast to the car. Done!

I want bacon too.

Youre making it very difficult to say no to these...

You can use the stock housing? Projector?

Any chance of it blinding oncoming traffic?

Are they h9 or h11?

Thanks
