Leatherseats.com seats installed/High content leather kit clarification
I posted this in the wrong forum and just moved it to this section.
I finished installing my leather seats purchased from leatherseats.com over the weekend. I went with Dark Graphite with Pacific Blue inserts, gathered inserts and the high content leather kit. The installation was fairly straightforward and I figured out a way to install the covers without removing the headrest housings (I posted it on page 19 or 20 of the 2nd leather seat group buy post). I had to add padding to the center bench section of the rear to get wrinkles out (I used a cotton towel). Also, I was able to use wire cutters to cut the old hog rings off (I think they were 6"). I broke the plastic lip that holds the knob to the lever when I pulled the knob off. No cosmetic damage but it's a lot easier to take the knob off now but I don't think I'm going to replace it. I still need to modify the plastic housing so the lever doesn't rub on it but it works. As for the high content leather upgrade (Regular kit), I want to clarify what it comes with. With the Deluxe kit, the only portion of the rear seats that is leather are the inserts. The side bolsters on the seat and back, front leg portions and upper back portions are all vinyl. With the high content leather upgrade all the side bolsters on the seat and back, front leg portion and upper back portions are all leather (8 sections of leather are added). The center seat portion (center panel on the seat and the portion on right side of the 60% seat) are not leather with the high content kit. They are vinyl. Somewhere in the group buy posts it was stated that the entire seating area is leather. That is incorrect. Either way, you are getting a lot more leather than most cars come with when they add the leather option. I spoke to Eric this morning and he clarified this. Review of the seats. The seats feel softer with the leather than the cloth. Also, they seem to support my lumbar area better (probably because of the extra padding and the gathers). They just feel more comfortable. And, the front seats have pockets in the back now. The backs of the rear seat are a different color than the rest of the cargo area but the black adds a nice contrast to the cargo area. The kit is quite nice. There were two problems with my kit. One was that stitching on the end of one of tie down bars (the section that you put the hog rings on)on the smaller portion of the rear seat back was coming apart so I hand sewed it back together by hand (took about 5 minutes). The second problem was that one of the tie down bars on the seat bench was broken in half. To remedy this I just added an extra hog ring to tighten both ends. Other than that, the seats look good and feel nice. I'm not positive but I think total installation time was about 6 hours. I didn't do the door panels and I'm not sure I'm going to do them. I think the interior looks nice the way it is. Finally, anybody interested in purchasing hog rings and/or hog ring pliers?
