You should paint the plastic timing covers too while you're at it.

Thanks guys! I did repaint the timing covers. I just resprayed them black though. I painted the valve covers and the coolant x-pipe red. Plus I have a red gimmick inlet. Plenty of color on this engine

Okay, I hope this isn't the most retarded question in the wold but how do you install the pistons with the block bolted together? Where you just checking bearing clearances? If so then why the gasket sealer?

Can you still access the rod bolts from the bottom of the block? Sorry, I don't really have any experience with boxer engines. Thanks.

Subarus are pretty weird when it comes to the pistons. There are two service holes on the front of the engine and two more on the back. What you do is assemble the engine as seen above and then slide the piston onto the connecting rod. Finally you insert the wrist pin through the service hole and use a pair of needle nose pliars to get in the circlips. Kind of a pain if you ask me. Especially when you are not paying attention and install a piston backwards

What is your project? I see you have a 95' Impreza. I think those are even lighter than my car.

Looks great, but I'm curious (sorry for being so late coming to your post), but did you use the old timing belt rollers? I don't see where you changed them out. It also looked like you used the old tensioner. I would hate to see that new engine eat a belt in about two hundred miles for something that was totally avoidable.
