Just got my issue of Drive magazine and apparently October is winter car care month, or something close.
A couple things I have done in the past to prep for winter are: Grease door hinges and straps De-ice/grease door locks Lower freezing point washer fluid fully clean and wax paint Make sure newish wiper blades are installed As for folks who mothball their Subies for the winter, WTF did you buy a Subaru for in the first place?! #Shuddaboughtahonda |

Well...My Subaru is for this. And this doesn't happen in the winter. So it rests in the garage for the winter.
I have winter tires/wheels for the Audi anyway. |

Last year, I got by just fine on the stock summer tires in the tiny bit of snow we got here. Had a couple hairy moments, but only because of my stupidity. Including a trip to Wisp for the Subaru Snow Day thing
For snowpocalypse, I had this... Which now looks like this So if the snow gets really bad, I'm covered. Probably gonna get some all seasons or maybe even snow tires this year. Is it really worth it to buy snow tires or will DWS's get me through a DC winter? |

Just moved to Winchester, VA. Having spent my entire in the south, I have no clue what snow is.
Last year's mild winter aside. Are winter tires the way to go? I have a set of Hankook iPike 409's ready to go when my Subaru gets here at the end of the month. My plan was to mount them mid November (or if it snows before then). People at work tell me I am crazy and the tread pattern on the iPike looks pretty serious. Obviously the OE summer tires are not the way to go, but is my current plan overkill? |

If I did I would put her away. I didn't buy my Subie for winter. |

Any takers? I've heard great things about the DWS in snow. I'm one of those people that just wants to be out screwing around in the snow and not sitting at home because it's flurrying. That's why I had the jeep and half the reason I bought a subaru.

protip: if you have tow straps and good enough snow tires, you can drive your car around and offer to pull people out of the ditch for $20
