if it wouldn't pain you too much-- whatever slight overspray is on black trim panels I'd recommend taking some Meguire's Scratch X to it, and taking a microfiber and scrubbing. It won't do any damage to the black trim pieces and it will eliminate minor overspray if it's dust-like by appearance.

He could fix ALL of these problems but thats not the point (although good call on the Scratch X) he (or his insurance which he pays by premium at a set interval) covered the damaged in a 3k range and they took the 3k and put 500 dollars worth of effort into the vehicle.

Take it to another reputable shop (dealer) get an estimate and go talk to the Owner of the original shop. If need be take it to small claims court, you tried more then enough with this body shop and simply put this kind of effort should NOT be required to get your car back to the way it was.

that is unacceptable work in my opinion, my father has been in paint and body for years. That is by far the worst work I have seen

take it back and have them fix it correctly.. My insurance company refuses to cut a check to a body shop without my approval of the work done, I can't see why your insurance wouldn't be the same.

Kill, Crush, Destroy!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, 99.9% of all dealerships do outsource all bodywork. Maybe 100% on the paint part of it.

^ this is true, I had the dealer take care of some cosmetic issues before I would bring mine home. They did good on the rear bumper but the front I was not happy with. They said they would try again to make it suit me but it would be a whole other day of driving 2 hours each way and being with out my car. Now I think I am going to get a FMIC so I am going to end up pulling the bumper and getting some work done on it anyway.

I would threaten to file a complaint with the BBB and FTC. Any legitimate business would rather fix the issue than have black marks on their public record. It will cost them less in the long run.

Wow man, thats terrible. I've had the misfortune of needing some body work done a couple times over the past year since getting my WRX and to be honest, the work that I've had done has been damn near perfect.

You should be the one being paid here, not the body shop.

Well, I just got my '08 2.5I back from the dealership - they do their own work, paint and all - and the quality was top notch. Actually looks better than when I originally purchased it.

100 % insurance coverage - was a no brainer, straight to the dealer.

To the OP - the whole issue really sucks. You pay the price, you should get what you paid for. No shoddy workmanship - or hidden issues. Hopefully, third time is the charm, and you finally get the finished product you were looking for.

Good luck

Wow, that really sucks!

Yes, let us know what happens from the next body shop.

I've had body shops say "why don't you bring in the car and we'll do all of the work, including blending the paint". I don't want over spray and I definitely don't want any blending.

Blending = painting over the other adjoining panels that are not damaged because they can't get the color on the replaced part right to begin with; and why would you want to repaint a surface that isn't damaged only to have the paint peel in a few months/years? I don't think so.

Sorry to see this. Sealant over the holes. B.S! Get some welding going and fill the hole with metal.

-end rant-

i would def be pissed. the whole purpose of the body shop is to return the car to new condition if possible. and if the bumper fits from the factory, i see no reason for them to have to drill it into your car...

i would say have another shop redo it. i had someone back into my front bumper over the summer and when i got it back it looked brand new.

Let me clear up a couple of things. It is standard to "blend" the adjacent panel on metallic colors if the repair is too close to blend within the damaged panel. You may also need to blend if the color is too faded. Your car may look fine when its 3-5 years old but what you don't realize is your car has faded. I don't care how often you wax it...it will fade. You can compare by looking at your door jamb and comparing to the exterior. A shop can tint the color when they mix it to try to get as close as possible but it won't be 100%. Therefore you blend the adjacent panel. You only "blend" the color..not the clear. You still have to clear the entire panel or you will see the blend in a year or so. Only hack shops blend the clear or shops that have their hands tied by insurance companies(one reason why going to a shop that the insurance company sends you to is not going to guarantee a good job).

Shoot, take that thing out to Pebble Beach and enter it into the Concours event immediately! They will love the well placed woodscrew and the spring overspray.

That's nasty man. I had a similar experience before. It wasn't pretty. Lots of overspray inside and out.
