We are pulling the manifold off a V7 engine now. I can take some pics of what we find. This engine has the white sticker and is an 02 JDM STI... More later..

No need for pics. Its the same as the above. V7 heads with LHS20V and RHS20V code 006. Non ported V7 intake ports.

White sticker reads: EJ207DW4CR-008-3715

Just to add some confirmation to your scheme.
I have an 03 WRX Sedan 5MT
Model GDABY8D
Heads say LHS20/RHS20 005
Engine EJ205BW4BB
My car it the 4804th 03 Sedan.

I know that manufacturers sometimes run out of specific model parts and use different model parts to complete the car.
I was hoping they were out of WRX heads and stuck some STi ones on my car, but no such luck.

Allright, vers8 info.

Heads are numbered exactly same as pic above, but have small machining process to lip of intake. I didn't take any pics because I can't find my camera.

I looked at another set of vers7 spec c heads I had around and they are same number but ports look slightly different. Maybe just a little less clean that's all.

Vers8 motor taken apart:

Pistons look same as vers7, but have different casting numbers and weigh less. Rods are similar but now have deeper pins on the caps.

Crankshaft looks to be nitrated(discolored dark all over except for journals) and is machined much nicer than previous sti cranks.

Block is identical to vers7 sti.

I received a set of heads from Ron yesterday that were sold to me as V8 RA heads. They also have the RHS207 and LHS207 marks on them as well as the larger ports. Here is a picture of what Ron was talking about with the intake ports being beveled on the edges. Looking at the one pic of sponaugle's heads it looks very similar to his older RA heads.

Here's a little kink...

I have a supposed S202 engine

My heads say LHS25 and RHS25!

I can't find the pics I took when I put the engine in but they look just like the port that dwx posted except the port matches the gasket perfectly.

I'll crawl under the car later to get the # off the white sticker to see what that says.

Would certainly be interesting if the S202 had the heads off the US STI. Anyone know what the marking are on the US STI? I know the block has a EJ25 casting in it.

For those interested per Group N and Group A homologation papers here is the info I could find on the heads of the VER 8 STI RA SPEC C:

Maximum lift for intake cam is 8.7mm
Maximum Exhaust cam lft is: 9.3mm
Depending on angle of rotation can very lift considerably.
Cam size:
Intake is 37.0mmx 45.9mm
Exhaust is 37.0mm x 46.6mm
Springs (1 per valve) under load of 59.3kg the maximumlength is 26.5mm
External diameter of springs: 27.9mm
Spring coils: 7.7
Diameter of spring wire 3.4 x 4.25mm
Max free length of springs 44.9mm
theoretical clearance for valve timing:
.2mm
minimum cylinderhead height is: 127mm
Interestingly enough it lists compression as 8.5:1
Cylinder head: Angle between intake valve and vertical 20.5 degrees
Angle between exhaust valve and vertical 20.5 degrees
Maximum diameter of valves: 36.2 mm
Valve length: 104.4mm
I have a drawing of the ports I will scan and post that later. I cn't answer the original posters question but thought that i would share some info (pardon the bad gramar)

Hi Guys,

Quite an interesting thread so far.

I was just wandering if it may be an idea to post pictures of the combustion chamber space on the various heads being discussed.

It would be interesting to see if the Spec C, for instance, has any hadworked changes to the combustion chamber. Changes to this space will obviously make quite a difference to the overall operation of the engine, and if STI are hand porting Spec C heads, I wouldn't be suprised to find that they have breathed on the cylinder heads to (please forgive the pun ).

Worry.

BTW - Just wondering... Do any of you guys have heard or seen of a EJ254 block? Yes, a JDM 2.5 but we have no clue where it came off! It is NOT a turbo motor, but it is a 2.5

Would love to know if they flow as well or better than Spec C. Any info?

totoherbs:

a) I don't know if those heads flow better or not than the Type C.
However, they are are being flowbenched as we speak.

If anyone has flowbenched the TypeC please let us know.
I am still confused if I should use the TypeC or these 2.5
heads for my project.

b) Sems the heads came off from a Legacy. Will let you know
as soon as I find out.

Bone stock vers8 spec c heads flowed 260cfm @.400 lift on the intake and [email protected] lift on the exhaust. This was done on a superflow bench with 25" mercury. The water method might show slightly higher numbers.

Flow numbers for v7 spec c should be similar. THere are some slight differences, but not too bad.

I haven't done a set of v7 heads. I only did the v8 cause I sold a set and had them ported first and my head guy said they were really good stock.

Here's a question for you guys.

What do you guys know about AVCS, non AVCS JDM >WRX< cams?

Are they spicier then the USDM WRX setup?

What I basically want to do is move the power band up about 500-800 RPM.. not a whole heck of a lot. Or is there a way of regrinding the cams I have now to do that?

I'm kinda green when it comes to this stuff, so if anyone has the details, and or give me some advice, it be great!

These would be going in a set or V7 STI heads IIRC (Ron care to clarify?)

Oh well, any info is appreciated.

The jdm wrx have avcs right?? maybe older ver6 cams...?? Then you would lose the avcs...

What are you moving the power band on? The sti heads with avcs should be good for early spool up and a longer power band no?

Don't plan on using AVCS, no. Is there such a thing as a non AVCS v. VII WRX?

If not could the Non AVCS WRX cams be v. VI's?

I dont think there is a non avcs VII wrxs...

You can run the heads with out the avcs... and use a VI cam wrx or sti, I dont know the durations...

The jun cams are VI and people use thoes, so it would work.
