Default So my boss stole my heater....

I went looking for it on my office floor and couldn't find it in anyone's office. Didn't look in the boss's office though.

A week later I then mention it to another co-worker who then said he saw my boss using it in his office. I was like ***!

So me being the chicken **** and not wanting to accuse my boss of stealing my heater (which is acutally the company's but he didn't know this though), I devise another way of getting it back. One day after he's gone I go into his office, take the heater apart, disconnect a wire so that it can't turn on and I put it back together.

Yesterday my boss comes into my office:

Boss: Hey...by any chance you're missing a heater?
Me: Yeah actually am! I think the cleaning people might've taken it.
Boss: Uhhh..yeah I think they might've taken it and misplaced it in my office.
Me: O RLY?
Boss: Yeah...I don't know why they would've done something like that.
Me: Hmm...me neither
Me: So I'll come pick it later then.
Boss: Ok

So he uses it for over a week and then since it now doesn't "work" decides to let me know it was misplaced in his office. Oh the humanity!

So rather than simply take your heater back, you went through the trouble of disassembling it, rendering it inoperable, and reassembling it?

Well I really wasn't using it and it was the company's. I just didn't like the fact that he didn't just ask for it and just took it. Plus i wanted to amuse myself.

After I found out the boss had I would've asked him about and said something like, "Hey, I had a heater under my desk and now it's missing. Nobody else has seen it. It's not a HUGE issue, but it is creepy to know we might have thieves in our midst. Has anybody else reported anything missing?" <your halo twinkles here>

then proceed to tell him how you'd whoop that person's ass and throw them into a hot hot fire if you caught them.

Makes you wonder why he didn't just build a new heater out of paperclips pebbles and bits of string. aka Martha Stewart.

Although your solution was geekish, was in really the only solution? Couldn't you just have unplugged it?

No, maybe he was using in an unauthorized fashion.

heh. My company not only approves of space heaters, but wired an outlet in my office directly to the fuse box so it would stop tripping the circuit breaker for me.

life is short. If my boss horked my heater and I was cold, I'd simply leave and not come back. There are warmer places out there and bosses who dot decrease productivity by messing with the labor.
To bless any company with my presence everyday, I would have to feel appriciated.
