Default Paint flakes on rubber door trim

Alright so I clayed, polished and waxed my car last weekend. As I was doing so, I noticed on the rubber trim inside the door there were a few paint flakes the color of my paint. They were just sitting there and came right off. My question is, would the wax I was using cause flakes to come off the paint? It was meguiars high gloss (clear coat safe). My car has never been repainted as far as I know and seems way to clean to ever have been. Just trying to figure out where these may have come from. Any ideas?

....even with a more aggressive product you shouldn't see flakes of color coming off. Are you the second owner?

Yea I am. I highly doubt its been touched up or anything tho because everything looks one hundred percent factory. The vin stickers and everything are still there.

If there is flakes on your gasket, thats usually from over spray getting in there from being painted in a body shop.

No I highly doubt it was repainted, I mean it is wayyyyy to clean and you can just tell by looking at it. All of the vin stickers and all are in original place and havent been tampered with. Maybe someone touched up a scratch in that area or something? I dont know...

What kind of polish were you using? Breakdown of the polish could've caused it to turn into small dust particles which could have the color of your paint...

And you shouldn't doubt that it's been repainted. There most definitely are body shops that do top notch paint/body work, and you wouldn't be able to "just tell by looking at it".

Unless you did detailed with a proper machine polisher, my vote is in for respray.

yea but what kind of body shop would be able to re glue all the vin stickers exactly like the supposed to be and not even get one bit of overspray on any screw or anything? and I use meguiars polish and wax although just before i bought the car, someone did a polish and wax job but didnt full buff everything as i found lots of wax and polish still sitting on the car in various places.

It all depends on what work was done. Pics would help.

If the shop is painint the car the same color then they would not even go into the door jams or under the hood where all the stickers are. They just fix the surface and color match/blend.

Just because the stickers are still there doesn't mean it hasn't been painted, My car has been repainted twice and all my stickers are in place.

Smythe

My vote it respray as well.

really not sure why you are so excited about these VIN stickers. when a car is repainted the same color the jambs are normally never touched....I.E these stickers have no reason to be removed. also, its very very likely that a panel of the car was resprayed at the dealer.........dealers have dumbass high school kids zip the cars around the lots and a minor fender bender or paint damaging snafu is not out of the ordinary.

I found that Mothers carnuba wax in the metal tin would leave residue similar to what you described if applied too thick.
