Default Auto 2.5 RS owners, autocross question.

Hi to all automatic 2.5 RS owners,

I have some questions for you guys who do autocrossing.

Do you guys use "D" all the time?

Or do you guys need to shift a lot when cornering? (i.e. "D" then foot brake then shift to 2 or 1)

I am new in autocross and I don't know should I shift when autocrossing.

Thanks very much.

I would think you'd want to leave it in 2 all the time, or if your TCU has auto upshift to leave it in first. I dont have a 2.5rs but I dont even use D when driving around in the city!!

Although not on topic I suggest learning to drive with two feet. With combination of brake and gas you can not only control shifting but weight balance and rpm level as well. Try it out. Your brake pads and transmission fluid will wear out fast but it sure does improve speed.

In my "fun" Legacy the TCU will auto upshift right at redline, its great because I can keep the car in 1 and the RPMS will stay very high. Yet if I ever forget to shift into 2nd manually and reach a straight away of speed it will shift to second for me. It will shift back to first at the "first" oportunity (When rpms in 1 would be at or below 6k if I remember right).

I autoX my auto Legacy and I launch in first and shift back and forth during the run, dropping from 2nd to 1st helps me rotate the rear out in corners I would normaly plow through.

My very first run I use "D" so I can look for the proper line.

Just experiment, you will find yourself getting very angry when the auto shifts before you want it to and in the middle of corners when you arent using full throttle.

off the line I have it in 1st, then shift to second at redline...
then I leave it in second unless there is a box or other very low speed turn, in which you can pop it back into 1st... I do alot of left food braking to keep the turbo spooled as well

have'nt auto-X'ed her with the turbo yet... but my geuss is turns should be fun when exiting and then instantly spooling, car should get sideways VERY fast...

with the turbo, second gear is about half as long... I can redline VERY fast, so it should be interesting...

As I know when we left the stick in 1 or 2 the power will spilt to 50/50 but for 3 and D then it will be 90/10.

If that's true, then wouldn't it be nice to use 1 ro 2 when cornering?

Anyone can tell me is that true?

Thanks.

not that I've ever autocrossed, but when doing our local canyon runs, I'm always in 3rd,usually flooring it and using lots of left foot braking in turns while still being on the gas. Ever drive a go-kart? ever been told not to powerbrake? well don't listen to them, they're all wrong! actually, you'll get your rotors red glowing hot on a good downhill (i have and all 4 to boot) but the amount of control you'll get is awesome. Just be careful not to overcook your brakes and get some good pads, steelbraided lines and good fluid.
