i noticed that there is a sensor in my throttle body i'm guessing one is the throttle flap position sensor and the other sensor is for the coolant running thru it.
this sensor is like right on top of my throttle body, if i do this mod, then will my engine temp sensor in my speedometer stay cold since there is no coolant flowing thru? |

There is no temperature sensor on the throttle.

iirc, the iacv has 4 wires. i'm sure the map sensor has 3.
either one is fairly important to the car! |

just un-did this mod yesterday.... it was a pain to take the hoses off of coupler because it was almost fused into one piece. Plan to do it again when summer comes.

yeah I'm sure your drop in mileage was because of that

trust me it did. I keep very close records, as well as watch mileage with my scangauge. air that is TOO cold can cause partial combustion of the fuel. it doesn't atomize as well and sticks together.
You have noticed how NOBODY has had any issues with freezing? ever think that maybe that coolant isn't even there for freezing, but to help with cold weather emissions? |

mine dropped a little also, but I suspect it is due to bad O2 sensor. New O2 is on its way... damn expensive at $160 shipped.

if your theory is correct you'll get even better mileage with a blocked off TMIC. try it and see. |

techno inspired
For those of you who are worried about "freezing" in cold weather or poor gas mileage in the winter its seems most of you are somewhat technically minded.
Here is a suggestion for you. Grab some EXTRA fittings, hose and a valve set of some sort. Make it a SWITCHABLE bypass. Then you can simply rotate the valve and flow coolant thru your TB for your "emmisions" or bypass it with the valve for the "power" setting. This would also be a much more consistant way to test if it effects MPG/POWER as the other external conditions likely would not be changing as much (IE. last month I got XX MPG, now I dont. Must be the TB coolant bypass mod.---> but its COMPLETELY different weather out, got different fuel, etc.) If I am bored next time I have my TMIC off I will try to make this and take some pics. I would like to see back to back dyno pulls with this switchable bypass as well |

I read the entire post and remember only one car with WI/Meth. I use meth and I'm still not sure if I can do this mod? So I'm asking, is it ok?

I doubt your drop in MPG was from the TB bypass.. It was most likely from the winter grade fuels, colder weather, and longer warm up times.

you can get some large rubber vacuum caps from the hardwear store. with the TB bypassed, there is no pressure (and no liquid) in the TB so you just need to keep dust/grit from getting in there.

If it was anyone but mikie that said it happened I would call them a liar. Since it WAS mikie, I just scratch my head in curiosity. Still not convinced and think its something else though.[/quote]
Hahaa, nice way to end the rant! |
