I am doing my vf39 swap tomorrow and have a grimmspeed 3port bcs, but after reading the warnings in the instructions I have to wait until I can get protuned to run the bcs. So looks like I will be trying to find a #57 bit tomorrow

I bought a Tactrix cable a while back and I'm now running the Stage 3 XPT map with a VF43 and a Grimmspeed BCS. The map calls for a GM 3-port BCS but I've very slightly altered it to run the Grimmspeed BCS instead. The car runs fine and boost is right on target. But, if you're going to get protuned, then, indeed, you're going to have to get by with a pill until you're ready for the protune. I hope you'll find that #57 bit for your install tomorrow and good luck with the install.

well I had no problem finding the 57 bit....the problem came when I attempted to get the pill out of the line and ripped it. This sucks. Do I have to replace the hose with a subaru part or can I just pick something up from the local auto store? PLEASE ANYONE HELP!!

It's just a vacuum line. get it in the right size from your local napa, pepboys, etc. and you're good to go!

^ good going!

What map are you running with it? I ran the COBB OTS map and it was horrible compared to the OTS Stage II map i was running...and tons worse than the Protune Stage II map.

everything went well on my install. Only little hang-up was, I was accidentally shipped p'n'p manifolds for a 2.0 instead of my 2.5 But now I have an accuse to work on my car again this weekend! The car runs good and hits target boost. But I must agree with everyone who thinks the cobb map is...
wait for it.....wait for it.....almost.....not quite....ok....boosting...redline
I talked to clark yesterday, gonna get tuned this weekend.

Hi i have a 2 questions

I am going to have vf39 along with sti TMIC installed this saturday.
I wana make sure I have all the parts.
I will be running cobb ofs map

Question 1) THe vf39 comes with the stock hose along with the restrictor pill, should i use that pill off the vf39 or should i get a new pill with the cobb suggested size.

question 2) I have a STI TMIC that comes with the y-pipe and the 90degree elbow, will that fit perfect on the vf39 or do I require to extend it?

Thanks.

Okay you should also think about getting some new gaskets to save you from the unexpected. If the vacuum tube is the stock tube that came on the VF39 then you should be fine to directly install the turbo. The intercooler should bolt in to place perfectly and you shouldn't have any problems with them matching up.

Now a suggestion I would highly recommend that you purchase a 3port BCS some day as it gives you better throttle response and faster spool. I have a gs bcs and it is night and day difference over stock. And seeing your gonna need a tune anyways its worth the extra 80 bucks for a 3port bcs.

GL with the install hit me up if you have issues as I have done many of these swaps

^^

Thanks, Finally got the swapped done, everything fits perfectly. Other than the STi Intercooler hitting the strut tower bar here and there.

But I got a question does the vf39 whines a lot louder than the td04?
Because I am hearing a lot of the whinning noice.

Yes its defintly a great upgrade with the extra power on top. However I was expecting a bit more from it. Maybe its just cobb's off the sheleve stage3 map. Or I should of installed the 18/20g

Does your sti tmic hit the bar when you get on it?

Yes it is the Cobb ots map that sucks. Get a protune and you will have much more fun with it.

I noticed the vf39 seems to whine a little louder than the td04, but isn't anything dramatic.

ya it makes this stupid vibrating noice here and there
I just went to home depo and got one of those hot/cold water tube protector and wrap it over the bar for now.

^^
I got a question too.
I also had the cobb sf intake installed from before. But now the by pass sound is like 2x as loud when i have the td04, should i be worried or I am fine with it?
It sounds like a freaking BOV now..
thx

Personally, I would get rid of the Cobb intake. The stock air box with a k&n filter (or similar) works great for this mod.

^^ it depends on the map you might run later down the road. the intake should be okay and you shouldnt worry about the whine or the bov its just and added effect for you.

and the cobb ots map sucks horribly wait till you get a protune or real tune for the car it will be even better. and by the way sick looking car!

hey man so with a TD04 stage 2 map i was putting down 250hp and 315 trq, and now with vf39 im putting like 330hp and 320 trq on an opensource tune. those are conservative numbers as i havent had the car on the dyno yet. those are ffrom airboys spread sheet. so keep pushig it

edit: i think you will be like 289 and like 305trq with the ots map

Do you have a WRX 5 speed transmission? How is it holding up with the new power levels?
